Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Not practicing for Lions in open period Wednesday: LB Jarrad Davis, RB Dwayne Washington, C Travis Swanson, S Tavon Wilson.
If Swanson is somehow out Sunday, that would likely mean Graham Glasgow to C and Joe Dahl to LG (or Zac Kerin).

Travis Swanson missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury.
Jarrad Davis has a concussion and missed practice.

ID'ing the best, most important games of NFL Week 3
2. Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, Fox)
Matchup quality: 77 out of 100
FPI win projection: Falcons, 51 percent
FPI playoff leverage: Lions 21 percent, Falcons 14 percent

The only matchup of 2-0 teams in Week 3 features the Falcons as slight road favorites over the Lions. FPI rates Atlanta as the top team in the NFC, but isn't quite as sold on the Lions, who rank eighth in the conference. Atlanta's offense, led by Total QBR leader Matt Ryan, has the second-strongest offense in the league (FPI of plus-6.4). FPI does see the Lions as a balanced squad, having all three units (offense, defense and special teams) rating above league average, one of only six teams to share that distinction, but no single unit ranking higher than their special teams at No. 7.

2017 Detroit Lions are legit, even if you're scared to believe.
Freep

This is normally where the cynic will complain they did it against two mediocre opponents. My response to that would be - have your watched the NFL through two weeks? Beyond the Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers, are there any teams out there that are so overwhelming and overpowering that you don?t see any reason the Lions can measure up? Seattle has problems blocking. Green Bay is already beat up. Cam Newton looks highly erratic for the Carolina Panthers.
The Lions aren?t among the elite. But is there any reason they can?t hang with the upper middle class?
