Hall?s departure from the Tigers system comes a year and a half after he won Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors in 2018 and made his Major League debut. The 26-year-old southpaw made 16 appearances out of Detroit?s bullpen last year, allowing 20 runs on 28 hits over 23 1/3 innings despite 27 strikeouts. His high strikeout rate and spin rate, however, made him appealing to other clubs once he hit the waiver wire.

Hall, 26, has a 9.48 ERA in 31.1 MLB innings. That belies the swing-and-miss stuff he?s demonstrated, both in the majors and high minors. In a pair of Triple-A seasons, working mostly as a starter, Hall has racked up 10.3 K/9 against 3.2 BB/9. Hall?s 23.9% career MLB strikeout rate isn?t quite at that level, but it is still slightly better than average. Most encouragingly, the 26-year-old has 96th percentile curveball spin, per Statcast. He comes with two option years, so he?ll give Boston some flexible left-handed relief depth.

Nunez, 25, re-signed with Boston on a minor-league deal in November. He?s spent all seven of his pro seasons in their farm since signing as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2012. Nunez had a career-best showing at Double-A Portland in 2019, hitting .280/.333/.412 in 233 plate appearances. That dwarfs his cumulative .254/.325/.345 line in the minors. He?ll be with the Tigers as a non-roster invitee in MLB spring training, the team announced.

TMLR Toolshed Series-Hitting.

Welcome to the TMLR Toolshed series, where we take an annual look at the standout tools in Detroit?s system. We?ll begin by looking at the best pure hitters in the system.

The fundamental act of putting the bat on the ball remains central to the sport, but there?s far more to hitting than simply making contact. The best hitters show the pitch recognition and plate discipline to swing at pitches they can drive, the bat speed and barrel control to make contact, and the power to do damage when they connect.

Here are the best hitters in the system heading into 2020.

Tigers Minor League Report Toolshed Series: Power.

Welcome to the TMLR Toolshed series, where we take an annual look at the standout tools in Detroit?s system. In today?s article we?re looking at the team?s best power-hitting prospects. If you have not check out the first article in this series on hitting, here?s the link.

Power is seemingly everywhere in baseball now, thanks to better training, lofted swings, and lively baseballs. But the Tigers were left out of last year?s historic power displays, with Brandon Dixon pacing the big-league club with 15 homers, and only one prospect topping that total. Is there any help on the way? Let?s take a look at the best power hitters in the system and see.

Note: All Average Fly Ball and Home Run Distances were taken from Minor Graphs.
