from bybtb

Miguel Cabrera hit his 383rd career home run in the first inning, tying him with Larry Walker for 62nd in MLB history and his 245th with the Tigers, tying him with Cecil Fielder for fifth in team history. His home run in the eighth was his 384th career homer, tying him with Harold Baines for 61st in MLB history. Cabrera's seventh inning hit also was his 2,150th hit, tying him with Yogi Berra and Ed Konetchy for 201st on the all-time MLB hit list. Cabrera now has 20 multiple-homer games as a member of the Tigers, tied with Rudy York for sixth most in team history. Cabrera also has his 25th game with four-or-more hits as a member of the Tigers, tied with Harvey Kuenn for fifth most in team history. And finally (two years later when you finished reading all of this) Cabrera has 36 four-hit games in his career, tying him for 57th in MLB history with several players, including Al Kaline.

September 2 in Tigers and mlb history :

1901 - Detroit sweeps a Labor Day doubleheader from Washington, picking up an American League record 21 infield assists in game 2. This is still the AL record. SS Kid Elberfeld has 12 assists to back up Roscoe Miller.

1909: Detroit completes a sweep of every series against visiting eastern teams, winning their 14th in a row to regain first place by a half game en route to their 3rd straight pennant.

1970: Detroit's Gene Lamont homers in his first major league at bat, but the Red Sox this time hold the lead and beat the Tigers. The Tigers win the opener, 6 - 4, scoring two unearned runs in the 8th.

1973: The Tigers fire Billy Martin due to continuous differences with the front office.

1987: Tom Candiotti pitches his second one-hitter of the season, but also walks seven batters and makes an error as the Indians lose to Detroit 2 - 1. Matt Nokes' single with two out in the 8th is the Tigers' only hit.

1994 - According to acting commissioner Bud Selig, September 9 is the tentative deadline for canceling the rest of the season if no agreement is reached between the owners and players in the labor conflict.

2012: Justin Verlander allows a homer to lead-off hitter Alejandro de Aza, but then settles down, as the Tigers win, 4 - 2, over the White Sox. They are now even with Chicago atop the AL Central. Delmon Young hits a three-run homer off Chris Sale, who is charged with the loss.

Roto Round Up.
I have written about Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera a few times recently, discussing his dr op in power this season. Part of the reason for his decline in power is due to the various nagging injuries he is playing with, and part can be attributed to the beginning of a possible decline. On Monday, Miggy showed off some of the power fantasy owners were missing from him this season, as he homered twice in the Tigers big win over Corey Kluber and the Indians. Miggy went 4-5 with 2 home runs, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI in the Tigers 12-1 win, raising his slash line to .304-.367-.501 with 19 home runs, 86 runs scored and 94 RBI. The two time MVP has seen his slugging percentage of .501 drop to the lowest level in his career. He is on pace for 22 home runs, just half of his total (44) hit in each of the last two seasons.
