Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

October 2 in Tigers and mlb history:

1927 at Navin Field: On the final day of the season, Harry Heilmann pounds out seven hits in a doubleheader sweep of Cleveland and edges Philadelphia?s Al Simmons for the batting crown .398 to .392.

1968 - In one of the most memorable World Series performances ever, Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals strikes out 17 Detroit Tigers. Gibson sets the World Series record for most strikeouts in a single game, set on this day in 1963 by Sandy Koufax, and leads the Cardinals to a 4 - 0 victory over Tigers ace and Cy Young Award winner Denny McLain.

1974: Future Hall of Famer Al Kaline announces his retirement. During a 22-year career with the Detroit Tigers, Kaline compiled in 2,834 games, 1,622 runs, 3,007 hits, 498 doubles, 75 triples, 399 home runs, 1,583 runs batted in, 972 extra base hits, a final line of .297/.376/.480/.856 along with 10 Gold Glove Awards. He also batted .379 in the 1968 World Series. Kaline was a perennial All-Star voted to 18 mid-summer games, and most all of his final numbers ranked in the top 5/10/15/20 at the time of his retirement.

2011: The Tigers get a dominant outing by Max Scherzer to beat the Yankees, 5 - 3, and even their ALDS at one game each. Scherzer does not allow a hit until the 6th inning, while Miguel Cabrera puts the Tigers ahead with a two-run homer off Freddy Garcia in the 1st inning. Closer Jose Valverde struggles a bit in the 9th, giving up a home run to Nick Swisher and a triple to Jorge Posada, but ends the game with the tying run on base.

Draft Pick Status

The Tigers came into the day sitting in the No. 8 slot in the top 10 of the draft (CLICK HERE for why that?s important), a half-game ahead of both the White Sox and Padres.

More importantly, they?re 1 1/2 games up on the Seattle Mariners, the team closest to being able to knock another out of the top 10 spots.

The Tigers won?t end up in a tie at this point, since they?ll be playing one fewer games than the other non-contenders.

????????????????

No Makeup Game

With the Indians eliminated from wild card contention Wednesday night, there is no need for the Tigers to return to Cleveland on Monday to play the game from Sept. 12, postponed by rain
