Change in the Tigers batting order, where J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton switch spots, putting Martinez in front of Cabrera and Upton behind Victor Martinez. It’s not necessarily a long-term change, but it’s Brad Ausmus trying to do something, anything to get his offense going.
“I was mixing it up, see if we can get something clicking,” Ausmus said. “Doesn’t mean it won’t go back to that at some point, but I’m changing a little bit because we’re not clicking right now. It’s just quite frankly throwing a blind dart, hoping something clicks. That’s all it is.”
Jose Iglesias was another to bat second, Ausmus said. Instead, he decided to give Iglesias a smaller bump up to seventh.
The A’s have some shifts, too, with Coco Crisp batting leadoff in center field, Khris Davis moving up to cleanup, and longtime Verlander nemesis Billy Butler making his first appearance of the series.

Heading into next month's interleague series against Washington, Tigers mulling a few different options at first base to give Miguel Cabrera a day off from the field. Sounds like they are hoping to get Victor Martinez there, but will consider backup catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia a candidate as well. Has been taking grounders/reps there and played first previously with Arizona.

As far as OF Tyler Collins' demotion, sounds like it was more or less an inevitability with Cameron Maybin return. Tigers also feel he will benefit from regular at-bats down there. Manager Brad Ausmus said it was not related to Monday's incident and added that Tigers need an extra pitcher or two over the next few days.

Before Wednesday's game, manager Brad Ausmus referred to his lineup tweaks as "blind darts" thrown with the intent of getting something to click. Those blind darts began paying dividends in the second inning when OF J.D. Martinez, moved into the No. 2 spot, smacked a home run to right center -- a three-run shot that gave the Tigers a cushy 4-0 lead.

Tigers ace Justin Verlander exiting the game in the seventh inning. He doesn't look pleased to be leaving, but received a hearty ovation from the Comerica Park crowd. Another encouraging start for the 33-year-old but manager Brad Ausmus opts to go to his bullpen with the Tigers holding a six-run lead.

This should be exciting news to Tigers fans: top prospect Michael Fulmer, acquired last season in the Yoenis Cespedes trade, will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo. Regarded as one of the organization's brightest young pitchers and he will presumably make his MLB debut in place of injured starter Shane Greene.
