Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

September 22 in Tigers and mlb history:

1911 - Cy Young, at age 44, beats the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1 - 0, for his 511th and final major league victory.

1912: At Sportsman's Park against the Browns, Eddie Collins becomes the only player in major league history to steal six bases in one game for a second time. The Philadelphia Athletics' second baseman's feat of thievery has yet to be surpassed. It will be 79 years until another major leaguer, Otis Nixon, even ties Collins' mark.

1936: The Detroit Tigers sweep the St. Louis Browns, 12 - 0 and 14 - 0, to record the biggest double shutout in major league history. Game one the Tigers pound out 18 hits, three each from 2B Charlie Gehringer, C Birdie Tebbetts, and CF Al Simmons who also had 5 rbi. In the second game, of the 17 hits, 7 different Tigers had 2 hits apiece, with LF Pete Fox driving in 5 runs.

1953: At Briggs Stadium, Rookie Al Kaline makes his first start at The Corner, collecting a single while playing centerfield in a 7-3 loss to the St. Louis Browns.

1969: Willie Mays hits the 600th home run of his career. The historic homer off Mike Corkins of the Padres proves to be the game-winner in a 4 - 2 Giants victory at San Diego Stadium.

1977: The Chicago White Sox selected Bob Molinaro off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

1984: Tigers beat Yankees 6-0. Dan Petry pitches a 4-hit CG. Chet Lemon hits a 3-run HR. Tigers' record is 99-55.

1987: The Chicago Cubs loaned Dickie Noles to the Detroit Tigers.

1993: Pitcher Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers faces just three Seattle batters before hurting his right elbow in what turns out to be the last appearance of his career. Ryan finishes with 324 wins, 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters.

2000: The Detroit Tigers selected Eric DuBose off waivers from the Cleveland Indians.

2003: Detroit sets an American League record with its 118th loss, falling 12 - 6 to Kansas City. The 1916 Philadelphia Athletics (36-117) had held the record.

2015: Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra, winner of three MVP Awards who also holds the all-time record by playing in 14 World Series, passes away at age 90. He is just as famous for his aphorisms, and one of them is appropriate for the occasion: "You should always go to other people's funerals, otherwise, they won't come to yours."

1905: Detroit rookie Ty Cobb 18, hits his first home run, off Cy Falkenberg, an inside-the-park blow in an 8 - 5 loss at Washington.

1915: In Philadelphia, Detroit's Ty Cobb swipes his 90th base of the year. Only 300 fans are on hand to witness the event. Cobb will finish with 96 stolen bases, a record that will last until 1962.

1920: The Chicago grand jury indictment adds the names of former featherweight boxing champ Abe Attell, Hal Chase, and Bill Burns as go-betweens in the World Series scandal. Confessions, later repudiated, are signed by Ed Cicotte, Joe Jackson, Lefty Williams, and Happy Felsch.

1933: Despite the 5th-place Tigers' 5 - 3 win over the Browns, manager Bucky Harris submits his resignation. Babe Ruth's name will be prominent in the newspapers as a possible replacement.

1984 - Sparky Anderson becomes the first manager ever to win 100 games in a season with two different clubs as the Tigers beat the Yankees, 4 - 1. Anderson had led the Cincinnati Reds to 100-win seasons in 1970, 1975, and 1976.
