Election Aftermath

wow, that's a lot of money to guys like you and me! we can't just spend like that, why can thu guvurment, hurr? :ugh:

But huge deficits due to military waste and tax cuts are okay.

Don't worry too much though, as expected, Biden - who has been branded a dangerous socialist, libdem chicom in some circles - is already sandbagging his efforts by agreeing to negotiate with the GOP on this. (edit: link)

It's Like letting your toddler tell you to eat ice cream for dinner, instead of meat and potatoes.

I wasn't happy with the last administration, or the ones before. My taxes went up under Don and the cost of my healthcare when up "Bigly" under Obama. I am certain that my taxes will go up significantly under Biden, even though he has said that they won't. Somebody is going to have to pay for the trillions that Don gave away and that Biden is sure to do over the next few years.

I don't mind some of it. IMO, the last two packages were light on COVID spending. The way the money is being handed out is a total joke (stimulus checks and PPP payments). There are people and businesses everywhere getting money that they don't deserve while others aren't getting what they need.

It's all fucked up!

I've got a 50 cent word here:
autogolpe - is a form of putsch or coup d'?tat in which a nation's leader, despite having come to power through legal means, dissolves or renders powerless the national legislature and unlawfully assumes extraordinary powers not granted under normal circumstances.

Still not perfect, but better than coup or insurrection which are typically actions against a nation's leader.

Golpe means coup.

Self coup! Better than coup.

It makes sense.

One legitimately comes to power through established norms.

One legitimately loses power through established norm.

One illegitimately attempts to hold onto power through violating established norms.

100%

The ham-fisted way they dished it out was embarrassing. I have no faith the new administration will do a better job.

My wife and I have had very mixed feelings on the aid that we received. On one hand, we're not hurting for money because she never stopped working (works far more) and we received a pretty large chunk for 2 adults/2 children. I'll be honest and have been from the start, we didn't need it.

On the other hand, she's a nurse and is getting her ass kicked on the daily. So in a way it almost feels deserved. We did our Christmas shopping through local business as much as possible before resorting to big box, that's been the only real way we have 'made up for it' so far.

My mom owns a (very) small business in Chelsea, MI. She opened her doors 3 months before Covid hit. She was denied a small business loan.

Shit is fucked.

And she didn't respond in the logical way, by tearing her hair out and screaming about big government, affirmative action, "illegals," start following "QAnon" and storm the capital?

I think in Michigan they just plot to kidnap the Governor.

Keep it local.

I think in Michigan they just plot to kidnap the Governor, who is pro big government, affirmative action and granting citizenship to illegals who also runs a pedophile ring.

Keep it local.

added context i felt was needed. Also, if they kidnap her from her office, that's storming a capitol, so there's that...

Since you?re bringing it up, I?m going to offer my opinion.

Just take the money, Rockefeller.

If you're looking for ways to "make up for it"/send it to the people picking up the slack, do curbside pickup for groceries and food and such and tip heavy. Some places have policies against tipping, but you can leave a tip in the trunk under a paperweight that says "Thank You"

tip in cash, so the tech companies can't steal it.

Or he can give it to his mom, as a thank you for all she did for him now that he is in a position to help and she is in a position of need.

Some day you'll be the weird/cool grandpa that sends cash which will be the equivalent of half dollars and $2 bills - kids will never spend it because of it's uniqueness and just keep it in a box with mementos forever.

We get stuff for our grandkids they can either eat or have when they are adults and say to their kids "your great-grandparents gave that to me."

And other essentials like books about dinosaurs and socks with dinosaurs. And birdhouses. I've built one for three of my grandchildren and I'll do another one for the fourth one when he's old enough to appreciate it.

I'm pretty much already that guy, sans grandkids. It will be over another decade (maybe 2 or 3 even) before that part happens.
