I’m only following on Gameday, but it’s looking dangerous. Hanging sliders, fastballs catching too much of the plate, and general control issues. I hope Flaherty cleans up quickly. Bases loaded with Jeffers up now.

And Jeffers promptly singles; Twins up, 2-0 now, Flaherty at 47 pitches, middle of the 2nd.

Was listening. It was weak contact that drove in the 2 runs.
Jam job sadly he fought off.
Flaherty keeps getting ahead then he falls behind. Not great way to pitch.

Urshela’s at bat(like Torkelson’s at bat leading off last inning) was nothing but balls. The 2nd and 3rd outs last inning were on pitches way out of the strike zone….

Ober threw 25 pitches in the last two innings.4 (or 5, if we are generous) of them were strikes). The tigers offered at 9 pitches in those two innings that were way outside of the zone (as well as a couple borderline pitches).

From 8th inning 1st game yesterday to this.. Man this series could have been so different. Meadows striking out so much he's obviously not seeing the ball right. And he plays every day, sit his ass down.

I'm not sure if a more anemic Tigers' lineup has ever been assembled than this one. We have a lineup of full of Nephi Perez's.

Actually, we had them all the way. 😝

The Tigers have had three different hitting staffs over the past six seasons. Last year the average length of tenure for MLB hitting coaches was about 2.4 years.

DET has averaged 2.63 runs in the first 8 innings of games through their first 118 innings.

DET team hitting profile
PU 8.3% 4th
GB 42.3% 19th
LD 27.7% 3rd
Topped 31.7 11th
sweet spot 35.1 10th
barrel 6.9% 19th

on record for hating the Flaherty signing..similar but not quite as much as hating the Boyd signing..but I think its pretty obvious Scott Harris is bad at signing SP..Jack Flaherty isn't good..he has FB issues..and they are not getting better.

Spencer Torkelson has been hitting a lot of soft fly balls and popups lately. The last five balls he's put in play, including a weak foul pop to third today. His average launch angle early on is 21.7 degrees. His career average is 12.2, last year 17. Just an observation.
His EV is down almost 5 MPH..he is late..he was late in 2022..same issues..he's a damn mess.
its always easy to blame the hitting coach..but damn..the approach and execution of DET hitters is just horrendous..thats independent of the results..which are..well what they are..impotent.

The career arc of Jack Flaherty is 4S FB dependent..
good years
2018 4S BAA .198
2019 4S BAA .194
2021 4S BAA .193
bad years
2020 .238
2022 .328
2023 .290
2024 .417

bottom 3 in this lineup is 7/68 ..the #3 hole hitter has zero barrels and zero HR..yeah..the offense is a mess..the offense was a mess last year..is it early and is the frustration clouding patience..or is there a problem..only been 2 weeks..but..changes can't be far away.

Very lucky win like several before today.

The Tigers provided an ominous update on the status of right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long yesterday, from club manager A.J. Hinch. According to Hinch, the Tigers are getting “multiple opinions” on the righty’s arm after he reported tightness in his forearm last week. To that end, Gipson-Long has returned to Detroit to meet with the team’s doctors and will remain with the club while awaiting next steps. Gipson-Long was already on the injured list due to a groin strain, but an issue with his right arm is far more concerning for the long term. A lengthy absence would be unfortunate for the Tigers, as Gipson-Long impressed with a 2.70 ERA and 3.16 FIP in four starts down he stretch last season during his first big league cup of coffee.
