Game 37 Detroit Tigers @ Cleveland Indians 1:10 EST 5/8

Way to over manage aj! Used chafin because there were 2 leftys due up. Problem is the righty homers lol

Greene K's. Sigh.
Bad base running by Mr out.
he is normally batter then

But damn but this is frustrating. We should be having a great road trip but lose 5 of 6 games.

two blown saves on this trip .

Plus Ibanez error . Cost 2 runs.
Totally team loss.
Except Olson .
I just don't think Chafin can close. He is just a lefty specialist.
Who is our closer ?
Thought it was Foley but something happened Friday.

Aj chose to use foley early because he was being cute planning to use chafin vs the leftys when they came up. Just ridiculous over-managing.

AJ just relies too fucking much on analytics.

'Too many mistakes' sink Tigers to 1st series loss to Guardians since '22.
Tigers official site

Boxscore.

Guardian 5 - Tigers 4 (F/10): Mistakes sink Tigers in extra innings.
Reese Olson pitched well but the bullpen and defense couldn’t hold a late lead.
BYBTB

Tigers blow lead in 9th, drop series finale to Guardians in 10th.
Detnews

Bullpen blows Reese Olson's run support in Detroit Tigers' 5-4 loss to Cleveland Guardians.
Freep

Tigers end road trip with another 1-run loss to Guardians.

Once dipshit aj put chafin in, he had to face 3 batters. So he was forced to face the righty too.
Sorry I thought that rule was changed back . Chafin should have no issues getting that RHB out either but that batter was trying to go to rf. You could see it in his swing.
Idk maybe it caught to much of the plate. Chafin couldn’t believe it was hit out.

Lange has closed a lot more than Chafin. Idk just backfired I guess. Frustrating.

He wasn’t as effective after leaving Detroit Last season. He didnt Have the greatest road trip either. 3 run double to Soto in a 2-2 tie game comes to mind in NY. In Detroit 2 years ago he was lights out at stranding runners.

Oh I agree but maybe he is worried about Foley’s dip in arm velocity. They had mentioned it on the radio broadcast. Idk. One blown save and he isn’t the closer anymore ? Makes zero sense for AJ to over manage. Use Lange or Foley and be done with it.. Chafin just isn’t a closer in my opinion.

Tigers are wasting to many really good pitching performances with such a shitty offense..
Bullpen has been mostly good but we have blown a lot of 1 run games. Like at least 2-4. Can’t remember the exact number. With just a league average offense we would have
7-10 more wins. This is all on Harris and ownership now spending money to just have a league average payroll and also relaying to much on analytics. We can’t seem to develop consistent young hitters. Not sure what the issue is. They tear is up in Toledo then hit Comerica Park and the Bigs and something happens. Then they draft high school guys who are 3-5 years away from ever playing.

Btw what has happened to The defense. Seems like it is a real issue last few weeks.

THE BLAME GAME.
Totally Tigers

she says don't blame the hitting coaches, it's the players. Then she blames the former GM and player development system. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Her reasoning as spelled out in the article is sound. Harris has had one year of oversight on the draft, and apparently limited options in terms of free agent hires (we aren't the Dodgers or Yankees). As she spelled out in the article, most of the hitters that are struggling were acquired by Avila. It takes more time for a new general manager to have any effect than the 21 months that Harris has been here, and assessing the effect of batting coaches on the players can't really be done by those of us outside the loop without taking that into consideration.

We have the payroll like we're Pittsburgh though. The 3 highest FA this year, 2 SP and Canha. Canha wasn't enough for this offense. They signed Urshela cheap because they say they didn't want to block 3B for our prospect. That makes no sense. A guy like McKinstry shouldn't even be on this team. They couldn't get competent C that could hit? Harris has had time to do more and better..
