Tigers are 16-17 at home. Indians are 17-14 on the road. Can the Indians win their 5th road series in a row?
Simon is 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA in five home starts, including a 4-1 victory against the Indians on April 25 in which he limited them to one run in 6 2/3 innings. He also won 8-4 at Cleveland on April 10, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Kluber has his teammates to blame for his less than stellar record. He receives an average of 2.45 runs per game (2nd lowest in MLB). 12 out of his 13 starts have resulted in 3 runs or less from the Indians bats. Kluber fanned 10 and allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings in a 9-6 home loss to Detroit on April 11, though he wasn't charged with the defeat. He?s pitched into the 7th inning in each of his last 6 starts and lowered his era from 5.04 to 3.53 during that span.
The only player besides Miguel Cabrera with better than a .350 batting average and 35-plus home runs lifetime against the Indians is Babe Ruth.
Cabrera has given Kluber fits, going 19 for 33 (.576) with four homers and two doubles, and he's 11 for 16 in the matchup since the start of last season. He's also tormented the Indians recently, batting .513 with seven home runs, six doubles and 20 RBI in his last 20 meetings dating to last June.
Cespedes extended his hitting streak to 7 games and has raised his average 25 points in June. He is 4 for 10 with a homer against Kluber. JD is 5 for 12 with a homer.
Brantley extended his hitting streak to 11 games and has hit safely in 31 of his last 34 meetings with Detroit while batting .434. He is 10 for 15 with 4 doubles against Simon.
Cleveland, is calling up 21 year old slick-fielding shortstop Francisco Lindor from Triple-A Columbus to make his Major League debut. He is MLB.com's third-ranked prospect.
The forecast for Sunday's afternoon game calls for temperatures in the lower 80s. There is a high chance of rain, 90 percent, with scattered thunderstorms.
