Zadina was the concensus for like 4th overall.


Nobody has a crystal ball unfortunately.

Even if a different team got the same player, the Wings coaching staff has a way of killing all creativity.

You can blame Florida.

Gifted them 2 top 6 forwards to ensure they go as a package.

Saved themselves 10+ million in cap space, but also gave them two solid forwards.

All to protect an extra D that they later traded away for a pittance.

BTW, it was by design to make Vegas more competitive than past expansions.

Early 90s teams could protect about 15 players.

The salary cap and deals to dump contracts also helped.



But if you look at the list of available players from 93 (Ducks-Panthers) expansion, not much good talent was available.

According to the nbc studio guys. Tampa Bay had 34 shots on goal and not one missed the net. He said he has never seen that Good of Accuracy in a hockey game. I only saw the last few minutes so I can vouch for this stat.
