Karns P Season: 5-5, 3.47 era (1.25 whip), Never faced the Tigers

A matchup between two badly slumping teams still fighting against all hope for a wild card berth. The Tigers have lost 9 of their last 13 games. The Rays are 9-21 in their last 30 games. The Tigers are 23-23 on the road and the Rays are 25-29. The Tigers and Rays are both 4 games back of the Twins for the last wild card spot.

Sanchez is 3-3 with a 4.17 era in 6 road starts this season. Sanchez is 7-0 with a 3.16 era in his last 8 starts and the Tigers have won all 8 games. Sanchez ranks 4th in MLB in run support at 5.50 runs per game. The Rays have only struck out 6.5 times per every 9 Sanchez innings pitched, which is the third-lowest strikeout rate of any team he has faced in his career.

Karns is 2-4 with a 3.71 era in 11 home starts. Karns earned a 1-0 win in his last start when he went 5 innings and gave up 3 hits while throwing 85 pitches. Prior to that the Rays had lost his last 4 starts. Karns has a 2.83 era in his last 7 starts. The Rays have scored 2 or fewer runs in 14 of his starts?.which is tied for 2nd most in the AL.

The Rays rank 5th in the AL with a team era of 3.57. The starters rank 2nd in the AL with a 3.45 era and rank 11th in innings pitched. The Rays tend to go to the bull pen once the starter is about to roll the line up over for the 3rd time. Their bull pen era ranks 9th with a 3.76 era and leads the AL in innings pitched.

Gose is the only Tiger who has faced Karns and is 0-2. Castellanos has 4 homers and 9 rbi?s in his last 6 games.

The Rays are hitting .241 (21 for 87) with 2 home runs against Sanchez. Cabrere is 5 for 23 with 1 homer, Longoria is 3 for 11 and Loney is 4 for 12. John Jaso is the only Ray who is batting better than .244 (with at least 45 plate appearances) since the all-star break. The Rays are averaging 3.5 runs per game this season?.which would be the fewest in franchise history.

2 outs in the Tigers 4th and Karns has thrown only 35 pitches. Wow.

It's amazing for a team that got faster this year still can't ever seem to manufacture any runs when you need em...can someone remind me again why they haven't started selling yet?

Bradley's Team playing some inspired ball right now...still have 3 inninngs I guess...

2 grounders past the statue at third bring around run for the rays.

pathetic just 1 hit, not grinding out any at bats, karns with 66 pitches in 6 innings.

It's pretty pathetic really his previous best PC after 6 was 81, this is by far the best start of his career.. This Tigers team just needs to be put out out its misery already I really don't know why they haven't started selling yet..unless DD just plans to leave the franchise in shambles...leave it the way he found it? Brad and the team are such an uninspiring bore

DD is not going to be the GM next year. He'll most likely be with another organization. Why does he care if we trade these guys for some future talent? He might just want to pretend we still have chance at the playoffs and then just let everyone walk for pretty much nothing. Hopefully he's not that much of a dick and the Tigers getting whipped by everyone right now forces him to be a seller or his sabotage would be too obvious.

If teams are asking about Kinsler like rod says we should by all means move him.

HPU missed pitch #2. It was good. So was pitch #3 apparently ... pretty much belt-high with "hit me" written on it.
