ESPN Sunday Night baseball!!! They might want to implement a flex schedule…a last place team vs a very mediocre team and a lousy pitching matchup. Oh well.
Can we go 4 games in a row with a solid pitching performance from a starter…and this time from the Greene machine? The Tigers are 11 games back of the 1st place Royals and 3.5 games back of the Twins for the last wild card spot.
Greene is 2-4 with an 8.44 era in 7 road starts this season. Lefties are hitting .354 with a .407 OBP and .998 OPS. Greene has lost 5 of his last 6 starts and the Tigers lost all 6 of those games. He’s given up 32 runs (12.00 era) in those 6 starts and at least 4 runs in each of those games. Greene hasn’t made it more than 4.2 innings in his last 5 starts.
The 22 year old left-handed Rodriguez has struggled at home posting a 6.41 era in 5 starts. However he is 4-0 with a 1.11 era in 5 night starts. Rodriguez had his start pushed back 1 day until Sunday after he was roughed up for 7 runs in 1.2 innings last week against the Angels. Prior to the Angels game he had only given up 4 runs in 17.1 innings in his previous 3 starts. Rodriguez had an issue with tipping his pitches earlier in the season.
The Tigers have never faced Rodriguez. Iggy is batting .458 with 6 doubles during his current 6 game hitting streak. McCann has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games and has multi-hit games in 8 of his last 13. He is batting .420 during that stretch.
The Red Sox are hitting .303 (10 for 33) with 3 home runs against Greene. Bogaerts, Napoli and Nava each have homered. The Red Sox have scored 15 runs in 9 games since the all-star break.
Tigers optioned Marc Kruass down to Triple A Toledo and brought up pitcher Kyle Ryan. Krauss is hitting .152 (5 for 33) with 1 homer, 2 rbi’s and 13 strike outs since becoming a Tiger. Ryan is 0-8 with a 4.86 era and 1.54 whip for Toledo this season. He is 1-2 with a 5.46 era in 8 games (5 starts) for the Tigers this season.
Yesterday Boston placed Pedroia on the DL for his recurring hamstring issue.
The forecast for Sunday night in Boston calls for temperatures in the 70s, partly cloudy skies and a chance for scattered showers.
