Hard to build a team in the draft like this..Need to tank and get a top 3 pick
.
9 million is too much to spend on goaltending.
Wings have been sour on Mrazek for a while, him leaving is best thing for him. Given his cap hit (and number to qualify him) that money is better used to ensure keeping the new forwards on the team.
There really wasn't much of a market for a goalie.
Plus Philly has a 6 point lead with 20 games left. The more games the more chance Mrazek gets to 6 wins with Philly which upgrades us to a 3rd.
Odds are Philly won't qualify him and he will sign somewhere else under 2.5 million as a UFA. And if Philly resign him, boom another 3rd round pick.
Backup goalie with a GAA around 3. He hasn't exactly been stellar last year. Keep in mind Vegas could have picked him and tried to flip him. There is rarely a big market for goalies as there are so many of them and so few positions available.
He has potential to be great, but hasn't been consistent. He's shown stretches this year he can be dominant.
Next few years Wings are better with him gone and money spent elsewhere.
Watch the highlights, showed 0 saves from Mrazek.
