Football: Spring Practice Has Started

I've always thought 98 would be a pretty good number for a quarterback to wear.

Once. I'm sure he heaved a pigskin or two.

Way too high for a QB. Fullbacks should be limited to multiples of 4 between 60-96. Halfbacks should be even numbers from 30-48. QBs should be 15-24. Coaches should try, whenever possible, to have their QB's number = to a quarter of the fullback and the halfback's number, half of the fullback's.

Drake Harris is not practicing. Seems to always be injured.

Harris, who has missed significant time with hamstring injuries over the past three years, wanted to make it clear that was not his current issue, tweeting: "Lol Had the norovirus, have to be cleared for 24 hours. Will be practicing tmrw."

Hopefully he didn't lose any weight! He already looked like a toothpick.

They had Peppers working at LB in dime situations and blitzing from am OLB spot. Someone also said Peppers looks even better this year than last. And Jourdan Lewis made several nice plays. Our defense could be the best defense our QB's face all year. Especially when you look at all the key players MSU and OSU lose.

After @JabrillPeppers' heat in 30 yard speed drills he said , "your SAM backer is the fastest guy on the team! How does that feel?!" Lol

So Peppers is a SAM now?

from the practice reports, reminds me of how the Packers used Charles Woodson.

with a guy that good, you could take one of two approaches: let him shut down one side of the field all by himself at CB, allowing you to move more help to the other side of the field, or bring him closer to the action and let him force TOs.

I like it. I think it's a great move when we already have Lewis shutting down one side.

Speaking as a fan of the SuperBowl Champions and having had the pleasure of watching such a totally dominant defense, I LOVE the idea of what seems to be shaping up for the MICHIGAN defense this season .. Love the idea of shutting teams down completely and needing only 20ppg to win.

Peppers was the best at run support last year . Makes sense. I called for him to be moved to LB several times.

I like what they are doing with Peppers. He has great athletic ability and will give offenses fits in their short passing and run games. Then we have Lewis on the outside shutting down their best WR. We should also have the makings of a dominate DL. Looking at the recruits we are signing power up the middle and speed and playmakers on the outside. This should be fun!

This is going to be one of those teams where you're more excited to see your defense on the field than your offense. Hopefully there's a little more consistency this year, but I can't wait to see this defense. There's so much talent on that side of the ball it's almost unfair.
