Top 10 College Football Towns

wonder what patriotic douchenozzle ranked West Pointe first? and that was the only pts they received apparently. How the hell can that qualify as not only a "college town" but the best college town?

Columbus is in the "others receiving votes" category, though I've never heard anyone from outside of it say anything nice about it.

East Lansing received no votes, which isn't really surprising. the campus is nice, but doesnt really have any culture... no unique shopping, no good restaurants (other than pizza joints for hammered students). no good music scene. and I doubt that "partying like you belong in a zoo" appeals to the 40-50 something aged guys who voted.

Durham needs to start appearing on these lists. It's on a lot of other lists that would contribute to this kind of list. We have tons research triangle money getting pumped into anything cool that anyone does. Our performing arts center is up to #4 in the nation for attendance. It's only 2,700 seats, but it's sold out most of the time. I remember a person that had a company called 'bike coffee' that would go to the farmers market with a setup that was mounted to the front of a bicycle. She just this week announced that she'd opening her 3rd coffee shop which will have a small bean roastery. Same story for the couple that made donuts and set up a card table (chocolate with earl grey frosting). They've got a restaurant now.

Here are some other lists: http://www.durham-nc.com/includes/content/docs/media/accolades_poster_8.5x11_UpdatedMar2015b.pdf

Columbus isn't remotely a 'college town' and really isn't very nice but Madison is a state Capitol too ...Lansing as well.

Not sure about Durham other than its part of the 'triangle' and may be lumped in with Raleigh/Chapel Hill that are all nice, but together also have ..flaws. And if this is largely a football list, well Durham probably makes the Top 5 for basketball atmosphere inside Cameron with all the nerds.

Yeah. The football isn't there.

But with the Durham Bulls and the negative history with crime, it has its own culture and it's a bit combative/competitive with Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Those places looked down on Durham for decades, and now that it's making a name for itself, it doesn't want it to be more of what they have going on. "Keep it dirty Durham" and all that. A lot of Durham wants to be Portland.

We actually have a barbecue place in one of the popular parts of town that's a 2nd location for a long time Raleigh establishment and I won't ever go there because it's Raleigh taking advantage of the cool thing Durhamites built, just making parking worse and cashing in.

Durum is the number one town for a Hollywood Commies to go and make a movie about minor-league baseball.

Speaking of Hollywood Commies I don't know why Hollywood is not on the list, there are two major college football powers here.

I know why it's not on the list: it's part of a huge, dirty metropolis, and full of sleazy movie execs, pimps, prostitutes, junkies, & freaks, none of whom even know anything about college football. strung out of their minds on prozac, xanax, alcohol, and what not, they could be standing right outside of the USC-UCLA game, and if you asked them who's playing they would stare off blankly into space and say "what?" (if they even answer at all).

that's not a college football town if you ask me.

No, I just missed the whole football thing and cut right to the college part. It wasn't at all a college town when I got here. Students wouldn't set foot off campus. Now they do. Tons.

It's no huge metropolis though. We have a chicken coop tour once a year.

I used to travel to Raleigh-Durham and while the area has its charm, NCST plays off the highway and downtown Raleigh was in transition. Durham seemed 'quaint' but like a lot of southern cities, had a definitive 'other side of the tracks'
