It's funny how many folks I know who live in Chicago that are rooting against the Cubs and they're not all just White Sox fans, either. Some are cynical about "Cubs fans" and how much of a bandwagon they have ...others just don't want to have to hear about it if they win and some just like the suffering and want it to continue..

I was a Cubs fan as a kid and lived outside Chicago for a while but as much as we've watched the WS and playoffs, I don't feel myself rooting for them. Then again, I've got no love for the state of Ohio either, so....

I've been to hundreds of MLB games, I've had exactly 2 opportunities to catch foul balls. I haven't gotten either of them.

I don't think Cubs fans are any worse than some of the more notably annoying baseball fans of other teams, like Cards fans, or the massholes who cheer for teh red sox... but most those fans don't have a "Wrigleyville" an entire neighborhoood in the city to ruin.

Chicagoans dread Wrigleyville and avoid the area like the plague, esp. on gamedays. I know I did.

I'm generalizing here, but it's often 20-30 something man-boys (most from the NW suburbs) drinking themselves stupid, puking on the street, pissing themselves, picking random fights with strangers for no reason, etc. before getting on the train to go back home to their parents' house. The Metra nothwest trains actually have "Cubs fan only cars" a policy strictly enforced on home games. I'm not kidding... they even have a separate waiting area for them. That's how awful they are to be around.

If it was only Saturdays, or Sundays, thats one thing...

I got my first ball this May against the Mets ....my son already had TWO by age 5 thanks to a foul ball over our head and a nice guy seated behind us and a bullpen catcher for the D'Backs tossing him a warm up ball from the pen.

Thats me. Im a Cardinals fan and honestly wouldnt mind them winning if it wasnt for their fanbase. I like their team and players but their fans are the worst (most). Example, ive seen oodles of congrats from Cards fans when they made the World Series (on my facebook ), I cant remember once a Cubs fan congratulating us on making it all those times. Not only that but its very common for them to make their entire season about the Cards not winning a WS. Thats how insecure they are.

They boo on every pitch thats 1 foot outside. All the "fans" that know nothing about baseball that recently came from New Hampshire or Upper Congo but are now all of a sudden Cubs fans. In 2002 I was at a game and they announced the death of Cards pitch Darryl Kile and 1/3 of the stadium errupted in cheers. **** THEM Id like nothing better than to see them never win anything

Well at $8,000-$20,000/seat, it's not likely most of the folks behind homeplate at Wrigley are actual Cubs/baseball fans and that was a conversation we were having yesterday. I played baseball up through HS and it was my childhood sport. When there is a flyball, the first thing you do is look at the OF reaction ...if he's jogging lazily to the left or right, it's clearly a playable ball and likely out. If he's turning and running like his hair is on fire, it's probably over his head and perhaps a homerun.

At Wrigley, every ball hit into the air was treated like a homerun even if it was a easy popfly out.

That told me that the fans were amped but also ignorant.

And when at Coors Field, there isn't a more obnoxious fanbase than Cubs fans. I love when the lose to the Rockies.
