Cameron Flukey, the Detroit Tigers' first-round selection in the 2026 MLB Draft, met Kevin McGonigle in 2022 at the Area Code Games, a prestigious showcase for the best high school players in the country.
“He was a fiery guy, man,” said Flukey, a right-handed pitcher from Coastal Carolina. “I got out of my second or third inning, and he came up to me and hyped me up. I think I struck out the side, and he was all over me, hyping me up, and it was awesome. Watching him hit even back then was cool. I'm watching a kid take a crazy [at-bat] and it was like, all right, well this is what that's about. So, he's always been really good, but he's definitely made some crazy improvements, and he's been awesome.”
