The Tigers today acquired a pair of Top 100 prospects – outfielder Zyhir Hope (#25) and right-handed pitcher River Ryan (#68) according to MLB Pipeline – plus right-handed pitching prospect Brady Smith from the Los Angeles Dodgers for left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal.RHP Brenan.
Hanifee has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
Ryan has been optioned to Triple-A and will be placed on their injured list as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Hope will report to Double-A Erie,
while Smith will report to Single-A West Michigan.

How do you think Andrew Friedman feels today? He never showed Scott Harris any of the good stuff from the back. Just all the crap on the shelf he wanted to get rid of.

From the LAD perspective they gave up their 5th best OF prospect
a TJ tripping 27 year old arm who has yet to ever stay healthy
and a high A lotto ticket
they had so so much better talent to deal.

the tigers got talent in the Skubal trade. that’s not the argument, but they got leftovers not the dinner. still may taste good. just reduces both the upside and the reliability .that’s about negotiation and honestly Scott Harris has always been a horrible negotiator.

I'm not mad at the return. They weren't going to get a huge haul, like they may have done if they traded him last off season. Pope is probably the Tigers top prospect outside of Clark. Based on what I have read, and his stats in AA this year, he should probably be in line to make the team next year. My guess, is at worst, he will be a decent every day OF for the Tigers. If he makes the team, he will be a huge upgrade in RF over anything they have now. Probably K's too much, but should have 20+ HR power as a rookie.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if harris switches to "buying" at the deadline now. They have plenty of solid prospects outside their top 10 that could bring in a couple relievers. Skubal was the big piece to trade. Nobody else will bring back much so might as well try shoring up the pen and see what happens

I miss men like Howard Cosell asking the tough questions at the most inconvenient time. These shills sound like they are addressing someone who just lost a close friend or family member.

I would have liked to have heard questions like these, boldly stated:

"Tarik, did you approach Tigers' management with an offer to stay with this organization?"
"Tarik, what is your opinion of the players that the Tigers received in return for you?"
"Tarik, if you are injured in the next off season, will you withhold that information from teams that want your services?"
"Tarik, did you tell the Tigers' front office that you wanted to be traded to the Dodgers?"

He is LEAVING the organization -- no need to treat him like he's made of merengue.

I think they are still listening to offers but probably won't trade Mize or Torres unless it's something that they think is a great offer.

Zyhir Hope is a power-over-hit player who will be an average defender in RF as his arm flashes above-average. He employs an open stance with a slight knee bend, and uses a small leg kick load into a handsy swing. He is direct to the ball with a lofty swing and good extension. There are some chase and S/M concerns in his game, but he makes contact in the zone. He flashes double-plus raw power to all fields, and his in-game slug will also benefit from his speed and instincts on the bases, as he will consistently swipe double-digit bags. He is slashing .293/.369/.530 in Double-A Tulsa this year in 425 PA with a 10.6% BB rate, and a 24.9% K rate.

River Ryan is an athletic RHP with a fast, live arm. His fastball flashes double-plus. He most commonly employs a four-seam fastball with good vert that he carries at the top of the zone and gets plenty of S/M underneath, but he can sink it and cut it as well. His slider has a 1-7 movement profile and sits low 90s with tight spin, gets S/M, and he can throw it for glove strikes. His downer curveball sits low 80s with big break. His changeup is high 80s with sink, and his cutter a fringe offering he keeps in his back pocket. He maintains velocity well, and repeats his delivery to throw consistent strikes. A solid history of executing in 3-2 counts.. A true four-pitch mix with most of his offerings above-average or better, there is a lane to him becoming a solid #2 starter.

Brady Smith is a RHP with a four-pitch mix. He employs a 3/4 arm slot and an athletic delivery. His fastball sits 94 and he carries it at the top of the zone where he gets S/M. His changeup is his best overall pitch, sitting 83 with elite miss rates and chase. It has a splitter-like action to it with fade and sink. His slider sits 83 with downer action, and his curveball sits high 70s. He maintains his velocity well later in games, and executes well in 3-2 counts. With his plus changeup, above-average fastball, and average breaking offerings, there is a lane to him being a mid-rotation starter.

Dodgers getting Skubal without giving up Josue De Paula, Mike Sirota, Eduardo Quintero or Emmet Sheehan is how great teams stay great. Incredible how they continue to pull off deals like this.
There were two or three quality relief arms Harris could have asked for from the LAD that were MLB active ir ready.. Ryan may be that.. he still didn’t address the issue .. who will get the last 6 outs?
