Did you guys know he played for Wisconsin in 1942 and then played for UM vs Wisconsin in 1943 due to transferring to UM for Marine training? A few former UW players, including Hirsch were given the option of sitting out against their former team but instead they played and won 27-0.

Denver writer Terry Frei wrote an entire book on that Wisconsin team and how so many wound up in the military and serving in WWII. Third Down and a War To Go.

Yes I knew that

I met him in 1990

I was staying at the OHare Marriott and went to bar to watch MNF. They were having a big thing with all these HOFers there. I bid and won a print of a LeRoy Neiman football picture. A bunch of the guys there signed it. Ted Hendricks was kind if hitting on me - he had had a few drinks and was a bit drunk.

Anyways next morning. I am coming out if my room with luggage, briefcase and this print. And this older gentleman comes up to me and says let me help you. I tried to tell, him I was fine but he insists. He carried my luggage (before wheels got popular) to the lobby. Ted Hendricks was there and says "do you know who just helped you?" And I said yes - it was Crazy Legs.
