Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 4 Million Views!!!! Thankyou!

Two players have recorded more than 2,500 hits over the past 20 seasons (since 2007). Who are they? (A hint: one is still active, while the other isn’t.)

The answer to the quiz is Miguel Cabrera (2,520 hits) and Freddie Freeman (2,507 hits).

Could the Tigers be developing their next Tarik Skubal right under our noses?
As Skubal trade buzz swirls, a third-round lefty named Ben Jacobs is climbing prospect boards across baseball — and his story sounds awfully familiar.

Tigers' Drew Anderson carving niche as multi-inning leverage reliever.
Friday night, top of the seventh inning. The Tigers had just taken ace Tarik Skubal off the hook, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth to grab a 4-3 lead.
Drew Anderson, who got the final out in the sixth, was entrusted to hold that lead for at least another inning. And the second hitter he faced in the seventh was the White Sox Miguel Vargas.

Tigers manager AJ Hinch lauds bullpen lefties for flexibility, success.
Keider Montero might not have been expecting to get the ball for a start in a series finale against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, but Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch knows the pitcher is ready to handle such situations.
“I think he knows when I give him the ball, he's going to go, you know, sort of max prep, max effort, until I take the ball away from him,” Hinch said of Montero. “And I think that mindset has proved to be very successful for him. And he truly doesn't care what the role is or what the game situation is. He just wants his opportunity.”

'We had some guts:' Tigers walk off White Sox in extras, sweep series.
The brooms were ready Sunday at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers entered a series finale against the Chicago White Sox with a shot at a sweep.
And it looked like they were about to get stored back in the closet when Dillon Dingler stepped to the plate with two outs and runners on the corners in the bottom of the ninth inning, Detroit trailing by a run.

Detroit Tigers beat White Sox 5-4 on walk-off bloop in extra innings.
The Detroit Tigers salvaged another quality start from pitcher Keider Montero thanks to a ninth-inning rally and some clutch hitting from the middle of the lineup in extra innings.
The Tigers beat the White Sox, 5-4, in 10 innings at Comerica Park in Detroit on Sunday, June 21. First baseman Spencer Torkelson drove in the tying run with no outs in the 10th off White Sox lefty Brandon Eisert. And after the Tigers loaded the bases on fielder's choice from third baseman Colt Keith, center fielder Matt Vierling walked it off with a bloop single to right field.

June 22 in Tigers and mlb history:

1903: Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell was born this day in Carthage, MO.

1909: The Detroit Tigers Baseball Club buys the rest of the vacant Bennett Field grounds as the site for a new ball park.

1912: Ty Cobb gets pinch hit for in an unusual scenario. With two outs in the 9th, and the Tigers down 11 - 3, Cobb is nowhere to be found, and George Mullin substitutes and flies out to end the game. It turns out Cobb is in the clubhouse showering.

1916: The St. Louis Browns selected Earl Hamilton off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

1916: Against the Giants, the Braves pull off a triple steal in the 11th inning, with Johnny Evers on the front end. It is the National League's only extra-inning triple steal; the American League's only triple swipe in extra time will come in 1941.

1926: The Cardinals pick up 39-year-old Grover Cleveland Alexander on waivers from the Cubs to help in the pennant chase. He'll be 9-7 down the stretch.

1928: Journeyman hurler Hank Johnson of the Yankees blanks the star-studded Athletics, 4 - 0.
In the game for Connie Mack's team are 7 future Hall of Famers; Ty Cobb, Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, Jimmie Foxx, Eddie Collins, Tris Speaker and Lefty Grove.

1929: The Chicago White Sox purchased Frank Sigafoos from the Detroit Tigers.

1930: Babe Ruth ties a major league record by hitting five homers in two games and six homers in three games. The Yankee outfielder hit three homers in the second game of the doubleheader yesterday, two homers in today's opener and one more in the nightcap.

1934: Detroit takes over first place, beating Washington, 11 - 3, dislodging the Yankees who lose, 4 - 1, to Cleveland.

1934: Bill Terry and Joe Cronin, managers of the 1933 pennant winners, are named to head the All-Star teams, establishing a precedent that is still followed.

1939: Barney McCosky and Earl Averill lead off with back-to-back home runs, but the Tigers lose 6-5 to the philadelphia athletics.

1941: Joe DiMaggio has 2 hits against the Tigers to extend his hitting streak to 35 games.

1947: Ewell Blackwell just misses pitching back-to-back no-hitters when Eddie Stanky of the Brooklyn Dodgers singles with one out in the 9th inning. Blackwell then gets Al Gionfriddo before Jackie Robinson bangs out a second single. Blackwell wins, 4 - 0, his ninth straight win, to improve to 11-2. Stanky's hit ends Blackwell's hitless-inning streak at 19.

1951: Willie Mays, 20, hits a 10th-inning home run, the first of his 22 extra-inning home runs, off 42-year-old Dutch Leonard of the Cubs. It is a three-run shot that gives the Giants a 9 - 6 win.

1959: Dodger southpaw Sandy Koufax fans 16 Phillies, to set a new record for a night game, and wins, 6 - 2.

1959: At Kansas City, Mickey Mantle drives in six runs with a triple and two homers to lead New York to a 13 - 6 win.

1961: On his birthday, Jake Wood, in his rookie year, celebrated turning 24 with a 2-run 2nd inning double that gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead. With Detroit down 4-3 in the 6th, he doubled & scored the tying run on a Dick McAuliffe single. Detroit went on to beat Washington 6-4.

1962: Stan Musial becomes the all-time total bases leader passing Ty Cobb, by raising his total to 5,864, in the first game against the Phillies.

1966: Willie Horton hits a grand slam in the Tigers' 12-2 win over the senators.

1967: Tigers beat Twins 5-2; Al Kaline homers twice w/ 3 RBIs.

1970: Rod Carew, batting .376 for the Twins, injures his right knee during an attempted double play when Milwaukee's Mike Hegan slides into him. The injury will require surgery and sideline him until September. Harmon Killebrew's 5th-inning homer with two on enables the Twins to beat the Brewers, 4 - 3, behind Jim Kaat.

1973: The Detroit Tigers selected Bob Miller off waivers from the San Diego Padres.

1977: The Detroit Tigers released Luis Alvarado.

1977: The Red Sox bang five homers (George Scott, Jim Rice, Carlton Fisk with 2, and Butch Hobson), all off Jim Palmer, to beat Baltimore, 5 - 4. The Sox have now won 12 of their last 13 games and set homer records for eight games (29), seven games (26), and six games (24). The Sox reach 100 homers, the earliest they ever have.

1982: Red Sox rookie Wade Boggs hits his first major league home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Boston a 5 - 4 win over Detroit. Boggs will finally crack the starting lineup for good after tomorrow's game, in which regular 3B Carney Lansford severely sprains his ankle while unsuccessfully trying to stretch a triple into an inside-the-park home run. Boggs hits .390 in Lansford's absence and .349 for the season.

1988: The Detroit Tigers signed Ivan de Jesus as a free agent.

1988: Luis Salazar's single to center field scores Tom Brookens in the bottom of the 10th. The Tigers sweep the Yankees on three walk-off wins to open up a 2.5-game lead over them in the AL East.

1994: OF Ken Griffey Jr. leads the Mariners to a 12 - 3 win over the Angels by stroking his 31st home run of the season. In doing so, Griffey breaks Babe Ruth's record for most home runs before the end of June. Although the Yankee slugger needed only 63 games to reach 30 homers in 1928 and 68 games in 1930, Junior accomplishes the feat in the Mariners' 70th game of the season.

2005: The Detroit Tigers released Nelson Cruz.

2006 : With the Marlins, Miguel Cabrera hits a go-ahead single on an attempted intentional walk in a game vs. the orioles.

His resignation will be effective in March 2010, when the union's general counsel, Michael Weiner, takes over.

2013: Max Scherzer improves his record to 11-0 with a 10 - 3 Tigers win over the Red Sox. Roger Clemens, in 1997, was the last pitcher to reach that mark.

2014: The Tigers scored seven runs in the 5th inning and finished the game with five doubles to complete a sweep of the Indians. Cabrera is 2 for 4 and has a home run and 3 rbi, Ian Kinsler is 3 for 5, Max Scherzer goes 6 innings allows 1 run with 8 K's.

2015: ESPN reveals it has obtained a copy of a notebook belonging to Pete Rose which contains evidence of regular betting on baseball games during the 1986 season. The notebook was seized during a police raid on one of Rose's associates in 1989, after Rose was banned from baseball by Commissioner Bart Giamatti, and had been under court-ordered seal since. Its content corroborate the contents of the Dowd Report, which led to Rose's suspension, and make it even less likely that current Commissioner Rob Manfred will reverse it, as Rose has pleaded for him to do.

2015: The Detroit Tigers released Josh Prince.

2016: Michael Fulmer allows one run, just his 3rd in 7 starts. Stephen Moya hits 2 home runs in Tigers 5 - 1 win over mariners.

Dillon Dingler has 18 HR and 55 RBI. The last Tigers player to reach those numbers by his 70th game played in a season was Miguel Cabrera, who did so in his 2013 MVP campaign (19 HR and 71 RBI). Dillon Dingler is 6th in MLB in RBI.

Dillon Dingler is just two home runs away from being the 20th catcher in team history to hit 20 home runs, joining the last one to do it, Jake Rogers, in 2023 and we are not at the All-Star break.

Dillon Dingler leads the majors with 33 two-out RBI this season. He's one of only four Tigers in the last 50 years to exceed 30 two-out RBI before the All-Star Break, joining Miguel Cabrera (37, 2013), Prince Fielder (34, 2013) and Mickey Tettleton (34, 1993).

Via Tigers Notes: Tigers pitchers have turned in a 3.15 team ERA in June, the best mark in the majors. The Yankees are the next-closest A.L. club way off in the distance with a 3.81 team ERA this month, Detroit's last June in this neighborhood was a 3.32 team ERA in June of 2006. It's last better June (non-strike edition) was a 2.82 team ERA a mere 46 years ago in 1980.
The Scott Harris plan seems to have been over-emphasizing pitching and caring less about offense - relying on year-over-year growth, McGonigle, etc. It's worked on the pitching end; it's failed on the offensive end. And the result is a team way under .500.

Tigers' Drew Sommers has gone from 'freaking out' to logging big outs.
When lefty Brant Hurter went down on May 23 (lumbar spine inflammation), it opened a gaping hole in the Tigers’ bullpen.
At the time, it felt irreparable. It left the Tigers with two lefties, Tyler Holton and long-reliever Enmanuel De Jesus. Missing was Hurter’s ability to be both a multi-inning bridge and, whenever Holton was unavailable, a leverage situational lefty.
And yet here we are, a full month later, and we aren’t talking about any kind of gaping hole in the bullpen.
