while i believe gardner should be the starter, i do think that hoke has to have the balls to pull gardner when he is playing badly.
all of those stats mentioned are forgetting 2 key things: 1) gardner took way too many sacks in bad situations including plenty of times that he could have thrown the ball away. 2) How many times did gardner fumble last year?
everyone keeps talking about his int's going down in conference play but he also had some really costly fumbles like the one in the iowa game on the sidelines in iowa territory, in long field goal range, late in the game, down by 3. Plays like these really hurt the team. Even if gardner is the starter, hoke has to know when enough is enough and give morris a chance.

Conflicts between players, and/or coaches and players? Don't know. But something happened that caused the team to lose confidence. yes, given the number of unknowns here a lot of the conjecture and complaints are pointless.

I know it's a cliche, but the OL never "gelled"... for reasons unknown. they were satisfactory in the first two games, then awful for the next several, before coming together again in the end. the Gibbons situation was also hanging over the team the entire time.

having a guy like that on your team, along with Lewan probably doesn't affect team morale too much if you're Miami, or Florida under Urban Meyer. But when you're standards are those of Bo Schembechler, it doesn't mix well, and that's sure to affect things negatively in the locker room.

another thing I haven't seen mentioned... regarding the Gibbons' situation and team chemistry: some of the accounts mentioned that Lewan's threats made to the victim were reported to University administration by other football players.

No idea who those guys were, and whether they were still on the team in 2013, but having some of your players snitch on one of the more high-profile guys on the team, well... that certainly can't be a good thing for team chemistry...

Not that I think they did the wrong thing for reporting it. But... yeah, I agree with Michlady's sentiments... I am GLAD this season is over. Now let us never speak of it again.
