I’d just like to see us get a big divisional lead..

Holton, Gunther , Hurter , plenty of options . The point is vest had already given up 3,or 4 hits and it was still 3-2. Alvarez hit made it 4-2.
Doesn’t matter what you do. Vest was getting lit up. I just feel you have to pull him. Or walk Alvarez to face a righty even though he is only a .219 hitter. He has always been pretty clutch.,
Holton, Gunther, and Hurter are all lefties. The entire Astros lineup is right handed hitters, except for Alvarez, who was only hitting around .200. The only rh pitcher left was Kahnle, which he saves for closing this type of game. Vest was his only decent option, and he had an off night.

It's always easy to say that they should have done something else when something doesn't work. If they had thrown one of the lefties into the mix, there is just as much a chance that the game would have opened up even worse than it did.

Wouldn't we all. But that is as much a matter of luck as anything else. This team isn't really quite built to dominate the best teams, just to have a chance at coming out above them with a few things going right. The Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees wouldn't be holding on to Baez and Maeda like we are. But even in the high money stratosphere, we can't really compete with them. We may still stay ahead of Cleveland, but they aren't going to go away without some bad luck of their own.

AL Central

Detroit…………18-12
Cleveland……16-13
Kansas City…15-15
Minnesota….13-17
Sox………………….7-22

Astros 6-4 over tigers
Cleveland 2-1 over Minnesota
Royals 3-1 over Tampa bay
Milwaukee 7-2 over Sox.

This one went off the rails pretty badly.

Detroit Tigers' rally falls short after getting tagged by Houston Astros late in 6-4 loss.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Through Monday’s games, the Detroit Tigers have the best record in the AL. Overall, they have the 3rd best record in MLB.
They have the best record since the 2024 All-Star break and have won 7 of their first 9 series. Only the 1984 Tigers have done this previously.
With 18 wins in the month of April, they have tied the ’84 team which ended up going 35-5.
Their combined pitching is one of the best in MLB and their run differential is tied with the Yankees for #1.
Yet, the Tigers have only 2 players – Tarik Skubal and Riley Greene – ranked in the top 100 players.
To what do you attribute the team’s fast start? Which factor do you believe has played the biggest role in their success?

What do you believe has contributed the most to the Tigers' impressive start to the year?

1. Their starting and relief pitching.

2. Significant contributions by the majority of players.

3. Hinch and his staff coaching on mental and physical skills.

The owner isn't cheap, the team just doesn't make as much money as a lot of other teams.

I voted 1 just because the pitching has had the biggest impact on winning. It was just a slight edge over 2.

If you build it the fans will come. The tigers averaged over 2.5 to 3.0 million fans that 10 year stretch when we were good. Who cares if you lose a few millions. Do you want to be beloved and get a baseball championship unlike your father for the city or do you want to just stay the same. Im glad they turned it around but give me a break with these billionaires crying poverty. You buy and own sports teams because you can afford it. The Tigers should own the AL. Central most seasons. This should not be such a struggle. I just disagree about them spending money or cutting players who are underperforming.
It’s time for a title in baseball again. We shall see if they resign Skubal.

I've grown tired of all the complaining, mine and others. This franchise was so ****ed by lack of inertia for decades with no player development, no excellent minor league coaching, poor drafting, little to no scouting in all parts of the world, and now in the last 2 to 3 years the millions that people wish would be spent on buying some superstar and spend 40 million a year on someone, instead of building a pipeline through the minors at positions of need.
The millions are going towards building up every part of the franchise from the lowest minors and camps in foreign Latin countries. {layer development has improved along with top coaching from the minors to the Tigers. Soon they will not have these infield problems and have more depth, and can find a superstar that will fill the void of not having a genuine superstar, without signing a long term contract in his 30's with the last 4 years a waste.
