Game #44: Boston Red Sox @ Detroit Tigers, Wednesday May 14th, 2025, 6:40 Pm

The Royals and Guardians both lost, so we got a bit more breathing room tonight, though the Twins are nipping at the Royals' heels now.

Skubal has struck out 61 batters and walked two in his last seven starts, covering 43 1/3 innings.

Boston goes home for a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves, who could start Chris Sale on Friday. That would make the Red Sox the first team in MLB history to face both defending Cy Young winners in back-to-back games.

Tigers RHP Jack Flaherty (1-5, 4.61) is expected to start Friday in Toronto.

Next 16 are tough

3 @ 21-21 Toronto.
3 @ 24-20 St Louis.
4 vs 25-18 Cleveland
3 vs 25-19 SF
3 @ 25-20 KC

Why so are the tv people interview someone while a guy is hitting ?
Dumb. Inbetween pitches please.
I agree. I love watching the Tigers on TV. I do not like watching the "Jason Bennetti Show". He and Andy just do not take a breath. Jason loves to see himself on TV and loves to hear himself talk, about whatever. I don't care for the Mystery Guest segment or the interviews in the stands and the split screens when they do that. Dan Dickerson is a pro in the booth. Just like Kell and Harwell. GO TIGERS!

I'm almost positive their contract pays them by the number of words they use. .

THE MAGIC IS BACK.
Totally Tigers

This has been going on for years. When I had the MLB extra innings a number of years ago, many of the teams did this same foolishness especially the AL Central teams.
The worst part was that they did it regularly when the Tigers were batting. Now more of the teams do this. They think we like this non-stop chatter but it is garbage,

AJ Hinch is a genius. PH Malloy instead of Tork. They would have walked Tork. Even if they walked Malloy, Tork would still be on the bench and ready to pinch hit for Carp, who definitely wouldn’t bode well against Chapman, with first base occupied. The Chessmaster.

The Tigers rank 4th in wRC+ w RISP. Here are their individual numbers. What sticks out to you?
Tork shedding the stigma
Javy lolz
Kerry?
Look at how many are thriving in big situations!
Baez and Torres just shredding..Keith and JHEN quietly producing.

No longer novelties, the Detroit Tigers have the best record in baseball. Their style is different. Their player buy-in is impressive. Their record speaks for itself. “Does it work everywhere? I have no idea. All I’m focused on is it works for us.” AJ Hinch.

The Tigers keep rolling and A.J. Hinch is a puppet master!

Matt Vierling is expected to return within days.

Workman is back in the organization.
Infielder Gage Workman, plucked in the Rule 5 draft by the Cubs and subsequently released by the White Sox, is being returned to the Tigers. Likely to report to Toledo.

Detroit Tigers reunite with former 4th-round draft pick Gage Workman.

Erie Seawolves (23-13) split a doubleheader today .
Both games were 7 inning pitchers due. Erie lost game #1 by a score of 3-1. Only run in game one was a Liranzo Homer his 2nd in back to back games.

Box game #1

Game #2. Erie scored 2 in the first and 1 in the 2nd and they held up with great pitching . Final score 3-2. Starter Burhenn had 7 k’s and 1 BB in 5 innings and is 4-0.

Box game #2

=====================================
West Michigan Whitecaps (23-13)
This was. By far the worst game of the season for the Caps blowing a 7-2 lead in the 5th. Tin-caps had bases loaded and a pass ball and 2 throwing errors scored all three base runners, up 8-7 the hit a homer in the 7th and caps got one run back in the 8th but lost
9-8. Caps out hit them 14-7. 3 errors killed WMW. I think Callahan was injured Clark 0-4 . He had no hits 2 games ago. I listen to this game and the caps announcer said he had a lot of family and friends in attendance. After Callahan was hurt the caps were deflated.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.

Tiger fans, in your wildest imaginations, did you ever think we’d see a season like this?
We are having an incredible amount of watching so much good happening that it should almost be illegal.
Instead, I call it payback for those 2017 to 2022 years we suffered through.
There are many individual and group stories we can point to that highlight this golden time of the season – and hopefully the year. But just as important are the takeaways we need to recognize that come out of all these great stories.
In other words, we need to see the forest for the trees.
Today, I’ve got my 5 biggest and most important takeaways about this team.
