this was a good decision. No reason to push him...we need him healthy until the trade deadlineWe never seem to ever get more than 6 out of him, we do from melton Mize and montero more often than we do scoby.

With the way this team has preform since Skuba return, I must review my thinking. Should Tigers continue this trend maybe they need to resign him, yea I've said it! And Mize when Healthy is as good as many. BTW Jack's ERA for June is 2.50 with his only win on the season. My goodness Tigers have go tto get the offence going!The tigers will probably wait till at least July 7th and 8th before trading Skubal.
The Detroit Tigers are hosting a unique, back-to-back puzzle bobblehead giveaway on July 7 and July 8, 2026, celebrating ace Tarik Skubal. The two individual bobblehead will connect together.
Skubal opens the two bobleheads
LOL...you are asking for way too much. Every team you call would laugh and hang up on you!ChatGPT is fun...
Combining the detroit tigers current short-comings with what is perceived available in MLB players and prospects, who should the tigers ask in return for Skubal?
===============================================
If the Tigers decided to trade Tarik Skubal, they should treat him like the baseball equivalent of an NFL franchise quarterback. An ace with Cy Young-level production and (assuming multiple years of control, or even a year-plus before free agency) is one of the most valuable trade assets in the sport. The return should reshape the organization—not just replenish it. Recent reporting suggests Detroit would only move him if it believes its playoff odds have meaningfully collapsed. ([MLB.com][1])
### What Detroit actually needs
The Tigers' long-term core is strongest in:
* Starting pitching
* Young infield talent
* Catching depth
The areas that still need impact talent are:
* A middle-of-the-order right-handed bat
* A long-term third baseman (if not already solved internally)
* Corner outfield power
* High-end bullpen upside
Because of that, I'd prioritize **elite position-player talent over pitching prospects**. Detroit already develops pitchers well.
## My ideal asking price
I'd insist on:
* One Top-10 overall MLB prospect
* One MLB-ready everyday hitter
* One additional Top-100 prospect
* One upside lottery-ticket arm
Anything less isn't enough.
## Teams I'd target
### Chicago Cubs
This is probably my favorite fit.
Ask for:
* Matt Shaw
* Owen Caissie
* Cade Horton
If they refuse Horton:
* Kevin Alcántara instead.
That gives Detroit:
* future 3B
* power OF
* rotation depth
---
### Boston Red Sox
Demand:
* Roman Anthony
Start there.
If Anthony is untouchable...
* Marcelo Mayer
* Jhostynxon Garcia
* another premium arm
Without Anthony or Mayer, I'd hang up.
---
### Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers have prospect depth but fewer elite headliners than in previous years.
I'd ask for:
* Dalton Rushing
* Josue De Paula
* Jackson Ferris
---
### Baltimore Orioles
If Baltimore became aggressive:
* Samuel Basallo
* Coby Mayo
* another premium prospect
That immediately injects elite offensive upside.
---
### Seattle Mariners
Seattle has exactly the type of young hitters Detroit lacks.
Ask for:
* Colt Emerson
* Lazaro Montes
* Michael Arroyo
I'd be thrilled with that package.
---
## Teams I'd avoid
### New York Yankees
The Yankees simply don't have enough elite prospect depth.
Unless they include:
* George Lombard Jr.
I don't think they can assemble the best offer. Reports have also indicated New York is reluctant to move Lombard. ([New York Post][2])
---
## If I were Scott Harris...
My opening demand to every club would be something like:
> "Give us your No. 1 prospect, your best young MLB hitter under team control, another Top-100 prospect, and a fourth upside piece. Otherwise we're keeping Skubal."
That's how valuable Skubal is.
### My favorite hypothetical package
From the Cubs:
* Matt Shaw
* Owen Caissie
* Cade Horton
* one additional high-upside lower-level prospect
That addresses Detroit's biggest organizational weakness—middle-of-the-order position players—while still adding another potential impact starter.
One additional thought: if the Tigers believe they can realistically sign Skubal to a long-term extension, I would **not** trade him. A legitimate Cy Young-caliber ace entering his prime is one of the hardest assets in baseball to replace, and even a blockbuster prospect haul carries significant uncertainty. The threshold to move him should therefore be extraordinarily high.

The Tigers can't just "sign him". He is a free agent, after the season, he can sign with any team he wants.With the way this team has preform since Skuba return, I must review my thinking. We are just over the halfway mark of the 2026 MLB season and we’re handing out grades. Over the coming week, we’re asking readers to grade individual players as well as management. At the end, we’ll post the final results.
Today, we’re continuing the evaluation and focusing on the infield. Only those with enough playing time will be eligible for evaluation. Those like Javy Baez and Gleyber Torres, who have been on the IL more than they have played, will not be eligible.
Please grade each player based upon both their offense and defense using primarily their slash lines (BA/OBP/SLG/OPS) and Fielding Run Value. Also compare each player with where he sits in compariosn with the rest of the roster.
To assist you in your evaluation, please refer to each player’s stats at:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/DET/2026.shtml (for offense)
Fielding Run Value Leaderboard (for defense)
There are multiple votes to be cast so please make sure that you cast votes for each poll in today’s blog.
I voted:

McGonigle A
Tork D
Give him a good enough contract and he could sign. He a free agent after the season, him and the Tigers can do what ever they want.The Tigers can't just "sign him". He is a free agent, after the season, he can sign with any team he wants.
He can do whatever he wants...the Tigers have to do what Skubal wants. The Tigers could offer 8 years for $400M and Skubal could still decide to sign elsewhere.Give him a good enough contract and he could sign. He a free agent after the season, him and the Tigers can do what ever they want.
Skubal has shown he wouldnt have went back out if it was even a playoff game. F himthis was a good decision. No reason to push him...we need him healthy until the trade deadline
