HUGE game in East Lansing this weekend

I still don't get it. Sparty is more talented than at least 4 or 5 teams that they lost to. While their misfortune makes me happy, I just wonder what's going on in their locker room that has caused this epic collapse. Unlike us in 08, they can't blame a huge dip in talent or coaching/system change.

$6. Yikes.

talent drop actually has a lot to do with it - 2013 was a horrible recruiting year, we lost our programs all time leading QB, 3 o-lineman to the NFL, a bunch more to injury, our leading receiver, 3 d-lineman to NFL or graduation and kicked two more off the team, and have had a series of injuries - we actually have backup o-llnemen (plural) playing on the defensive line. plus, reschke got hurt and the rest of our LBs suck and our backfield has the same problems it has had for a couple years now. we didn't have staff turnover but our co-OCs blow.

if you follow the program, it's a massive disappointment but not a huge mystery.

no nerve struck - you're going to have to try a lot harder than that. see, I was making fun of your post, just like I was making fun of turd. if you can't take a joke or recognize one when you see it, that's your problem

I wasn't trying to strike a nerve, I was making an observation. If you can't see that, that's YOUR problem.

Bet you've been itching all game to write something like this.

I was watching Spotlight - it was really good and by that I mean "really good" not "really good for Mark
Ruffalo movie". anyway, I only caught the final 3 possessions and wasn't aware of this thread until the game was over and I came here to say what a bummer it was that mich lost but that it wasn't a big deal and they still controlled their own destiny.

you said you struck a nerve, I was letting you know you couldn't possibly offend me because you can't. I don't see how you could even try to backpedal that.

Anyways, before the beginning of the season some were saying this looks like it might be a "trap game," and possibly that turned out to be the case.

Quite heartbreaking and very nostalgic for me. I remember quite specifically-for example like it was almost yesterday-The 1985 game that is my guess Chris Fowler didn't see but Kirk herb street probably watched as a kid - they were both referring to it during the game-I remember that game like it was yesterday, or maybe the day before yesterday. Oh shit I repeated myself a couple of times here. I'll talk more about the 1985 Michigan Iowa game when I'm more sober and less sad.

no recall - we were all still ND fans then and I was probably more interested in cruising around on my Honda Urban Express with the moped gang.

Spotlight is, IMHO an awesome film - I believe it won the Oscar.

A person could carry on and on about Spotlight, so I'll simply say that my favorite thing about it's recognition is that Rachel McAdams, a stunningly beautiful but in my open in underrated actress finally achieved an amount of recognition for her thespian abilities with her nomination for best supporting actress in the film.

At least Iowa was good in 85.

I was about to post my recollections of the 1985 Michigan Iowa game but somebody interrupted me with a text message and everything I had written is gone.

But that's OK.

I'll catch up later.

Yes they were the number one ranked team in the country on the day of that game. Michigan ranked number two.

Your profile says you're about 35 years old, you
would've been two years old or so on the day of that game.

You probably don't remember.

I was 10 years younger than you are now when I watched that game at the Improv on melrose in Hollywood.

How ironic.

I'm 34. I don't remember that game, but I know football history. That was a damn good Iowa team. We lost to dog shit tonight.

I understand.

Fowler and Herbstreit continued to refer to the 1985 game during tonight's telecast frequently. Harbaugh was the Michigan quarterback. Chuck long was the Iowa quarterback, although neither of them I think it made any reference to that.

That game was referred to frequently in the telecast tonight, and however good or not good this Iowa team was tonight doesn't change the vividness of my memory of that game, or what was happening during That period of time in my life.

Oh I get what you're saying. I'm just saying the loss tonight is inexcusable. 85 at least made sense. We were pathetic tonight.

Yes tonight was a heart braking loss for me.

I cupped my head into my two hands for probably 10 minutes after the game ended.

I'm still bummed but what in my going to do? I'm not out there on the field with those guys and Michigan wasn't going to get into the national championship playoffs without beating Ohio State and winning the Big Ten title game whether our team won or lost tonight.

So as sad as it is, tonight's loss might end up meaning nothing.

I've just given up on my expectations. We don't beat OSU anymore.

If Meyer gets AIDS and they have to bring Cooper back for one game, I might hold out hope.

That is sports, anyone can upset any team at any point. Michigan is the best team in the B10 this year and I think they will beat OSU, you heard it here. You guys are set up to win a lot of games going forward. As much as might I might catch flack from my Spartan brethern for being honest, id wager Harbaugh brings a NC in 4-5 years (I hope not but its a distinct possibilty)

that's absolutely not true. michigan is my second favorite team - I don't talk smack about them ever.

Exactly, Mack and I have never come here trolling on our board or here about Michigan. Fact. It never meant quite as much to me with Michigan or the "rivalry" because im not a gander. Imagine rooting for the University of Illinos as a kid :)

It's just not true that anyone can upset any team. Purdue could not beat Alabama 100 out of 100 times.

Good for you on being optimistic on our chances against OSU. I'll just expect the worst/norm. Probably will be about 45 - 20.
