"I wish Verlander was a True Ace"

Justin Verlander has 75 wins since the start of the 2009 season? The most in all of baseball.

tonight's 6 - 2 win over royals for JV is the 123rd of Verlander's career, tying him with Frank Lary for 10th place in franchise history.

Tonight was Verlander's 29th outing of 8-or-more innings since start of 2011. He leads Felix Hernandez (23) among all pitchers.

Verlander's 7 innings tonight bring his career total to 1,545.2 and tie him with Ed Willett for 17th place in franchise history.

Verlander is now 5.2 innings shy of matching Frank Tanana (1,551.1) for 16th place in franchise history.

Verlander (16), C. Lee (14) & R. Halladay (9) are the only 3 pitchers in MLB to have more than 3 games w/85+ strikes since '09.

Verlander throws 78% strikes in 114 pitches. Only one pitcher (Cliff Lee) has matched that since 2006.

An appreciation of Justin Verlander: JV now has six 17W+ seasons last 7 years...
Sabathia 5, Halladay 4, no other pitcher w/ more than two....

Verlander now 13-2 in Sept. last three years, with ERA of 2.34....finishes regular season at 4-0 last 4GS, allows just 2ER final 28IP...

2012 JV leads in:
IP 238.1 Strikeouts 239 WAR 7.2 CG 6 TBF 956 QS 24 PitchesThrown 3768 OPS .600
Second in WHIP 1.06 and ERA 2.64 DIPS 3.02 BAA .217 OBP .270
Third K/BB 3.98 K/9 9.03 SLG .330

He is 2nd in ERA and WHIP, leads in a shit load of other categories and his WAR smokes everyone else, in case people vote that way. But Weaver has 20 wins, so that could play a role and some might not vote him because he's not quite as dominate as last season.

Though, personally, he should win.

IDK....I think it's going to be a really close vote between he, weaver, and price.

very similar stats.

Why do people think Weaver is in this race? He literally beats JV or Price in zero categories. He has 20 wins la di da. His WAR is less than half JV's, and even voters who don't vote along those lines will factor that in when they put him at 3rd at best on every ballot. He's a non factor.

It is JV vs Price. New school vs Old. JV has literally everything on Price except a small ERA difference and wins.

Weaver leads the AL in WHIP and wins.

I'd say he's third of the three but not a distant third.

Really don't see an argument for anybody being over JV at this point.

voters are fickle...and if voting was solely by WAR Jackson would've blown Feliz away for ROY two years ago.

I do feel as though JV is the most dominant pitcher in baseball and therefore deserves the CY Young but it's not a shoo in like last year. Gonna depend on how these last few starts go imo.

JV and Prince made their finals starts today....

Not sure what "last few starts" you think there are.

I mispoke...meant "games"

if the Rays made the improbable comeback that is or if Weaver tossed a one hit shut out to somehow vault the angels into the playoffs or a 163 game.

Weaver could pitch every game for the Angels for the rest of the year himself, win all of those games, and still not win the award. He's not in the conversation.

He's listed in multiple writers lists along with Felix Hernandez and Rodney.

you seem to be irritated at the very notion JV may not win the Cy Young which I've yet to argue that I don't believe he deserves it...I've merely pointed out that the distance between JV and the rest is not near what it was last season and that voters are a fickle bunch and while JV has been listed number one in more lists than not it only matters what the voters think.

If you think Weaver with 24 wins wouldn't turn some heads then clearly there is nothing left to speak on here.

If you think Wins as a main stat, mean jack shit, then clearly you have no idea what turns heads.

no I don't think wins by themselves turns heads...but 24 does.

what is it with you guys?? Once again my only argument has been JV is not a slam dunk winner and I feel strongly the vote will prove that out whether he wins or not. It will be close imo.

He and Price are especially close.

weaver's downside is his absurdly low BABIP aided by the Angels top five defense and the fact as opposed to hernandez, JV, and Price he isn't a 8-10 k per 9 kind of guy. Again...I don't think Weaver will win the god damn Cy Young just saying it's shaping up to be a close vote.
