I'm trying to gather up some of the other posters to come over from the ESPN board

well, since ND has chickened out of our annual matchups, they can't still be such a highly considered rival now can they?

they dropped to tertiary level in my book last season.

ohio is a primary rival. msu secondary. ND tertiary, soon to be replaced by... someone from the new Big Ten east who can play. Penn St, I guess. ugh.

you guys are fluent in hoke-speak

The only time Hoke would use "tertiary" would be when he were referring to his third favorite smorgasboard.

To which he would run, no doubt wearing his shorts, out in the freezing cold...

Actually, Sbee is right -- michchamp began his post just as Hoke begins every sentence ...

"Well ....."

as in,

"You gotta go to Lansing and get a win, and beat Ohio because that's a big game too!"

True story: Hoke baby-sat my brother-in-law when (Hoke) was in HS, and he told my brother-in-law that he would be the head coach at Michigan someday.

Is the counseling session over now?

Are we done with digging up decade-old ESPN board thread topics and using personal opinions derived from select moments in time to make sweeping generalizations?

And does anyone give a flying **** what a Spartan fan thinks about how Michigan fans and Alumni feel about Ohio?!

I know I sure as hell don't.

I know I sure as hell don't.

I would say it's of tertiary importance to me, at most.

Quaternary even, perhaps.

Can anyone explain why you say "ohio?"

How is it somehow bad to say ohio state?

Seriou question

Telling quote, fans and alumni.

I think the fans are more into the ohio thing than the alumni are

People say 'ohio' because when Hoke said 'ohio', the buckeye reaction was overblown. It's a really trivial thing that they take seriously enough to keep us doing it. It there was less of a buckeye reaction, it would have died out by now. Very similar to 'little brother'.

The bucknuts hate it.
They feel disrespected because we are not addressing them properly, not giving them their due. They go from THEE osu to a generic ohio.

They won't mention us by name. It's their silly game. I do it because it bothers them. TTUN doesn't bother me.

Some douchebag at ESPN made a big deal about Hoke saying "Ohio" as in, "Well ...at Michigan you have to be able to beat Ohio ...go to Lansing and win there too - same with South Bend" or something like that.

Suddenly --- OH, GASP!! --- more "bulletin board material" for those bloodthirsty buckeyes -- ooooh, look ...the Michigan coach is "disrespecting" us by referring to our school as "Ohio"

and from there, and the only reason I have said "Ohio" is because it seems to irk OSU fans (and Spartans too, apparently)

And last year, following that "2 point win" over State, nobody rushed the field because MICHIGAN beat State, they rushed the field because no other relevant college football program on the planet can say it has 900 wins.

But Michigan can ....

I think you overestimate how much rival alumni really care what you think. That stuff doesn't bother me but it is mildly amusing

Well, I think you swap out yourself for your fellow fanbase as needed to present the case you find convenient. You asked why people say it. It's because of the reaction. There was plenty of it, regardless of your participation.

Well, I think it's fine. They don't say it because of a Michigan reaction. They say it because Woody said it. There were no message boards to react back then, so the tribute is a little different.

please don't do the ohio * thing, it's embarrassing for your fan base.

it killed me to cheer for you guys against Indiana last year but I had to do it.

And ...

So, which is it -- you have this care and concern for the image of the Michigan fanbase and find use of "Ohio" embarrassing, but when it comes to the outrage in response to Mike Hart's use of "little brother," you aren't bothered as a Spartan??

You think use of "Ohio" is stupid but then assert that rival fans "don't care" despite the overwhelming evidence (and t-shirts) to the contrary?

So you actually DO care more about MICHIGAN than your own school?
