Michigan vs. Maryland Game Thread 1/7/17

I do strongly dislike Irvin. There are numerous reasons, but the most recent example was after he threw a bad pass to Wagner on a pick and roll, Mo went up to talk to him as they were going in to break, and Irvin just straight up ignored him and kept walking. Maybe Wagner was speaking German or something, I don't know, but the number of times I've thought "ugh, what a bitch" about Irvin is astounding. And yes, talking about how much I dislike a 21 year old whom I watch play basketball on tv is kind of pathetic, but oh well. I really can't stand the dude.

Yes. I remember that and was thinking the exact same thing. Irvin screws up, Wagner calls him on it, and Irvin just ignores him.

I don't hate the players on the team, but I have a strong dislike for Walton, Irvin, and Donnel. These are 3 of the softest players I've ever seen where a Michigan basketball uniform.

if you walked up to me on the basketball court and said "Dummkopf! Den Ball besser beim n?chsten Mal. Sie h?ren mir zu, ich bin der gr??te Spieler im Team!" I'd ignore you too, even if you were die ?ber player on the team.

And if you'd allow me to say that to you while just walking by and ignoring me, I'd put you in the same category as Irvin.

ah... ha. ha.

but honestly, I think that issue - team chemistry - (assuming those instances are emblematic) probably explains a lot more than physical issues or a lack of talent does. I can't otherwise imagine why we seem to be worse this year.

I more or less assumed that at this stage in his career, Beilein was only getting "good character" guys... I didn't even think we could have trouble with team cancer in the locker room.

I owe an apology to whoever it was that I was arguing with about Donnal when he committed (remember, the not big enough to play in the big ten debate?). That character was an obvious secondary username, and douche bag, but he was right about that. At first I thought it might be MC under cover, but now I'm pretty sure it was spartanmack.

That's what's most discouraging about this team. They have seniors that Beilein hand picked, and there's no leadership. They have one of the most renowned offensive minds as a coach, and make sloppy cuts, lazy passes, and play heroball. The benefits that we should be seeing from having a Beilein team are just not there - yet the deficiencies are glaring.

It's both. The team just isn't that talented as they have a lot of role players, and I think there's a big chemistry issue going on that isn't discussed much. I also caught that Wagner thing with Irvin and that really bothered me.

And I don't know if they are really all that worse. They are just very mediocre and stale. Honestly, they look to have a very similar makeup to last year. Wilson's playing better, Wagner is okay. The rest of it is the same.

I don't really know enough about basketball to even try to fake an argument like that.

This is exactly what I would have said if it had been me.

I mean it!

plus, I decided this board (and the prior board) deserved to be treated with more comraderie than the old ESPN boards, and resolved never to make fake accounts to troll people. and for the record, I only had one fake troll account, and it was to troll ohio state fans. I only used it sparingly, but it always worked well.

also, these days it's not as easy to register email accounts (and hence create fake troll accounts) as it used to be. they require you give them a phone number they can text to verify your ID before you create it.

You can create fake google email accounts fairly easy. I just did it a couple of weeks ago when I was trying something out with twitter...

btw, what is up with all of the feel good articles coming out about the Michigan basketball team. Seems the press just absolutely loves this team.

Articles about Wilson breaking out...in a loss

Articles about MAAR breaking out...in a loss

I've seen about 5 of them so far. I'm not understanding this.

not sure. I saw the articles on Dakich getting a scholarship though... figured since his dad is in the media, we get a little more coverage than we otherwise would.

I'm okay with it... positive publicity can only help w/recruiting.

If getting to the title in 2013 and back to the E8 in 2014 doesn't help with recruiting, I don't think these stories can save it.
