Michigan vs MSU

Irvin may defend pretty well, but X also does very well defensively for his size. Also, there's a very key component. X can dribble, Irvin cannot. I don't remember a guy being so uneasy with his passes and dribbling in recent memory compared to Zak. Every time he handles the ball, I take a shot.

X also can't shoot. So we lose a 6'6" defender for a guy who is 5'10" maybe 5'11". That leaves us with Walton at 6'1", X at 5'11", and Rahk at 6'4". Mismatch central.

Defensively, they can't be any worse than they are now.

I just don't think Irvin provides anything of note other than adequate defense. I'm not saying you supplant X for Irvin all the time. But I think there needs to be more of a balance. I don't know what exactly Irvin's done in his career to earn so many minutes other than being loyal?

Well if we had any wing depth, he may not be getting as many minutes. The only wing we have on the bench that can play at all is Robinson. Unfortunately he's one of the worst defenders on the planet.

Mathews will be a great replacement for Irvin next year.
