MSU's President leaves for Clemson

Yikes. Three days after they gave him a raise & contract extension in East Lansing, AND he's taking a nearly $1MM/year paycut to leave. (link)

I can't imagine why anyone would do this move, other than MSU being an absolutely miserable place to try to administer and wanting out ASAP.

It’s a shit show because the board has been taken over by your people (corrupt, power hungry Dems). And they’re pushing ridiculous authoritarian policies like including a loyalty pledge in a new “ethics” policy forcing all members to commit to publicly supporting all BoT policies even if they were dissenters.

Shockingly one of the dissenters to this obviously corrupt and unconstitutional policy was also a Democrat. I guess there are a couple principled Dems left. Apparently Guskiewicz sided with the majority of the corrupt, power hungry Dems on this obviously unconstitutional policy so I say good riddance.

It’s not clear to me why he’s throwing this tantrum if he’s with the majority - maybe the resolution requires unanimous approval of the board to pass it but that’s not clear in the articles I read.

This policy? I assume you're referring to #'s 8-11. Those are all pretty typical of corporate America/corporate speak; I can't, for example, go out publicly and call journalists and give public statements for my employer, whether I like what we're doing or not. And my only real recourse if I don't like something we're doing is to quit and go somewhere else. If I speak out publicly, they'd fire me, and the American justice system would be unlikely to provide me with recourse. Which I assume you'd support, since you're pretty pro-corporate America.

Would be great to see one of the Trustees speak out publicly, get censored, and sue on 1st Amendment grounds. I actually think they have a decent case, depending on the context, since they're a public institution.

They probably shouldn't have 8 year terms; that's really long. Not sure how UM Regents operate, but same applies there. At least we got rid of one of the worst ones recently.

Wow, yep, UM regents have the same 8 year terms as MSU Trustees. At least Jordan Acker is out. Three more years before Sarah Hubbard's ( ) term ends.

First of all, it’s pretty well established you’re the only bootlicking corporate shill that posts here.

Second, you said it yourself, this isn’t a private business it’s a public institution and the trustees are elected not hired and fired. And I’m not talking about recourse - they have a duty to abide by decisions of the board but holding them to a duty to publicly AGREE with something they dissented to in a vote is absurd, authoritarian and unconstitutional.
