I heard in the fan Patrick show Tiger may have turned down 700 -800 Million.. unconfirmed. .

He did. He said a couple months ago the PGA is his legacy. And during the Open he ripped the players going to LIV.

"As part of its carefully orchestrated plan to defeat competition, the Tour has threatened lifetime bans on players who play in even a single LIV Golf event," the lawsuit says. "It has backed up these threats by imposing unprecedented suspensions on players (including the Plaintiffs) that threaten irreparable harm to the players and their ability to pursue their profession. It has threatened sponsors, vendors, and agents to coerce players to abandon opportunities to play in LIV Golf events. And it has orchestrated a per se unlawful group boycott with the European Tour to deny LIV Golf access to their members."

"The Tour's conduct serves no purpose other than to cause harm to players and foreclose the entry of the first meaningful competitive threat the Tour has faced in decades," the lawsuit says. "Banning Plaintiffs and other top professional golfers from its own events degrades the Tour's strength of field and diminishes the quality of the product that it offers to golf fans by depriving them from seeing many top golfers participate in Tour events. The only conceivable benefit to the Tour from degrading its own product in this manner is the destruction of competition. Indeed, the Tour has conceded its nakedly anticompetitive purpose in attacking and injuring the players."

Its hard to know what the courts will do but the PGA tour, from what I understand, has rules and regulations that uphold the decisions the PGA tour had done/shown.

I listened to a whole podcast on the history of the LIV tour. the Saudis' goal seems to be to throw money into golf to somehow improve their reputation... among "male, white, over 50" age group in the U.S. for some reason (?) I guess?

Seems pointless, given how going back to 9/11, that demographic was pretty solidly in the Pro "Attack All Muslims Except for the Saudis, Who Were Actually Behind The 9/11" camp. And have cheered every war we fought or funded against Saudi Arabian rivals since then. So I'm saying this seems like a waste of money. But I guess they have more than enough of it, so vanity projects like this probably don't matter.

But then they also said the only golfers that seem to be signing up are the ones desperate for cash (e.g. Phil Mickelson & his gambling problem), or ones that are divorced & owe a lot of alimony, AND/OR are otherwise not good enough to earn big $$$ in the PGA's more ruthless competitive environment.

So... that got me thinking... this is kind of like welfare for mediocre, middle-aged white guys!

We have a lot of those in the US of A.

This makes more sense to me as well. the KS of A definitely needs to improve it's standing with socialist college football fans like me.

If they start buying Michigan as many 5 stars as UGA and Alabama have on their rosters... man. That would be something. I'll become as pro-Islamic-oil-monarchist as TomDalton.

But instead we only have the Iranians on our side. And the US government froze all THEIR assets a long time ago...

I don?t know what days of the week they are.

Probably Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Is there a Pro/Am every tournament?

And are the tourneys on TV?

No, but the point they made on the podcast I listened to is that these guys are taking blood money, and are really short sighted. If/when the Saudis stop funding this, or just decide to not pay them, what are they going to do? They all burned bridges with the PGA.

And they definitely cannot criticize anything the KSA does now. I mean, no one can really criticize their employer without expecting some consequences, but then again, most peoples' employers aren't murdering and dismembering journalists, or bombing and starving entire neighboring countries...

Cameron Smith to join LIV. He won the 2022 players championship and most recently the British Open. I guess he is getting $100M

I think the current players that are on the tour should be thankful that the LIV tour started. The PGA has significantly increased the purses to 21 tournaments. They also increased the "player impact program" from $50M for top 10 players to $100M for their top 20 players. This is money that is given to the top players regardless of how they finish. They now guarantee a league minimum salary of $500K for fully exempt players that play in 15 tournaments. For non-exempt members, those who were ranked 126th to 150th in the FedEx Cup points standings and below, they'll receive $5,000 for every missed cut. The tour will also subsidize travel and tournament-related expenses to those players.

This proves that the PGA has been taking advantage of their players prior to having the competition of a rival tour.

I understand that they made a lot...but they are going to make even more now that the PGA has some competition...and that's the point.
