Well if they were going to lose, that was the best case scenario. Large deficit right out of the gate so they weren't tempted to use their 2-man bullpen. They might need to go to them early tonight.

Spring Training is one thing ...but right now, as I write this, all but 2 MLB teams are in the middle of Fall Ball and the Giants are all in Scottsdale.

It's almost year-round now between the Fall and Winter (Caribbean) leagues but I definitely agree. Here in Denver, folks just hope the Rockies are interesting until July when Broncos Camp opens but many years, they're all but eliminated by Memorial Day.

Go back to 144 games and cut back on the divisional games. I don't want to see the Diamondbacks 16 times every year. Also, there needs to be something done to level the monetary playing field. For as loveable as these loser Cubs are, its one of the richest franchises around and in a Top City Market.

Baseball was my passion as a kid and what I realized with this playoff and WS run is that I rarely watch it anymore. My son has a functional understanding of the game but is bored by it in general.

What baseball needs to do is take the stick out of its collective ass and put a more entertaining and viable product on the field. Way too many meaningless games and teams, to be honest.

I'm just going by years of conversations with players and their feelings on Spring Training. I haven't met one that doesn't want the length cut in half.

I'm sure. And I'm going off of being in and around Arizona during Spring Training and the off-season. A couple years ago, right about now or a bit earlier in late-October, I chatted with Dave Righetti, Tim Flannery and Bruce Boche at a Scottsdale hotel over the course of a couple nights as we were all staying there (and Rigs was a favorite of mine as a kid) and was surprised to hear just how year-round the league is. Those guys were there for Fall Ball ...then sending players to the Winter Leagues and just really having the Holidays off until starting up with pitchers and catchers in a development league (much less the Fantasy Leagues the teams do in January).

Yep. It's completely insane. My cousin rarely got to spend any time at his home in Florida with his family. It's a real strain on family. That's why Pujols took his family everywhere with him, but every player can't afford to do that.
