It’s a big concern the lack of feel that Scott Harris has for the free agent market. Even if you want to be cheap, the amount of steals you could’ve gotten by spending just a LITTLE money is maddening.
Reds ownership is notoriously cheap, but they just got Eugenio Suarez for the same deal we gave Alex Cobb.

HARD CHOICES POLL #1 – THE LEADERS.

In recognition of the long holiday week that celebrates both Passover and Easter, we’re providing a quicker Detroit Tiger fix for our readers. After all, you’re either waiting for hours in line at the airport or scrambling to get ready for guests.
Every day this week, we’re offering new polls for you to cast your votes and have your say. But not just any.
They’re going to be tough. On purpose.
We’re going to give you 2 choices for each question. One vote only. No substitutions.
The first involves current and past GMs (or PoBO).
You’re going to evaluate each on:
  • overall performance of Front Office and hirings
  • minor league system, drafting, prospects
  • budget
  • roster building
  • evolutionary/inventive skills and strategies
  • achievements
  • where in the timeline of competitiveness the team is
  • level of talent vs results
The first candidate is Dave Dombrowski. Only consider the time period from his first day in Detroit as GM to the aftermath of the tear-down (2015 through 2021).
The second candidate is Scott Harris. Like Dombrowski, start your evaluations with his hiring to the current day and what you believe may happen in the near future given what you are seeing now.

We are just over the halfway mark of the 2026 MLB season and we’re continuing to hand out grades this week to the rotation, manager/coaches, PoBO and more. At the end, we’ll post the final results.
Today, we’re continuing the evaluation and focusing on the President of Baseball Operations, Scott Harris.
Please evaluate him primarily based upon this year. You may also consider the past 3 years to a lesser degree. He should be evaluated on the players he inherited, the players he brought up and the players he acquired. He is the primary creator of the roster.
Also consider the purpose of the 2026 season. Is it to continue the “happy accident” of making the playoffs when the team was not expected to be this good so soon? Is Harris’ purpose for the franchise to continue building a solid roster? And how is the presumed lockout after this season impacting the strategy for 2026?

Detroit Tigers’ PoBO Scott Harris has been in the job a little over 3.5 years. MLB owners understand that it generally takes 5 years for their GMs/PoBOs to turn over a roster and create one that reflects the new Front Office. This is why the majority of them receive an initial 5-year contract.
Tiger fans are generally all over the board when it comes to deciding if the current Tigers’ roster still reflects Al Avila’s choices or if this is now Scott Harris’. Or, somewhere in-between.
There are a number of ways to evaluate the roster – overall totals and breaking down the number of positional players, starting pitching and bullpen.
As we look at the numbers, we are counting players who have been traded this year or are on the 60-day IL as long as they played the majority of the year for the Tigers. Those with only a handful of games (like Parker Meadows) or haven’t played at all this season are not being counted.
Then there are the transitional players – drafted by Avila but primarily developed by Harris. They are designated with an asterisk and we are not counting them in the final totals.

certainly isn't a ringing endorsement for Harris. Most of the players on his list suck, outside of McGongile, Torres, and Clark.
