tUnofficial 2016-2017 Bowl Season Thread

It looks like USC watched the Michigan game and are playing defense like we did. They are blitzing Penn St on almost every play and putting pressure on McSorley to make quick decisions.

Boy, Penn State's a resilient bunch, and has their offense in gear now. Should be a great second half.

Not a great bowl season for the Big Ten, but OSU, UW, and PSU are all young teams which will make it tough for everyone else next season.

Big Ten humiliation is complete. Iowa, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan, OSU all lose. Only winner at the top was Wisconsin which was 24-16 over Western.

Terrible

Unless Michigan pounds Florida at the beginning of the year, this could hurt the Big10 in the playoff conversation for next season. Iowa lays another egg against ****ing Florida? And beats Michigan?

Iowa wasn't good this year. Lost to North Dakota State, struggled against Rutgers, and made Purdue's QB look like John Elway. There's no way we should have lost to those chumps.

I doubt it. What Big Ten teams do next September matters more for next year than what they did this January. Beating LSU, Colorado, and OU OOC is what set things up for Big Ten teams in the rankings this year. You can still make a case that OSU, UM, PSU, and Wisconsin were all Top 10-12 teams when it's all said and done which is pretty good for one conference.

Iowa and Nebraska, who were supposed to the next tier, not doing well doesn't look very good though maybe Northwestern and Minnesota showing decently balances that somewhat (and Indiana playing respectably in defeat).

Basically I think all the Power 5 conferences were pretty even this year and in the end the right 2 teams are playing for the championship. The rest is just talk.

Big ten has to play many road games in bowl games. No excuses but the 3-7 could have easily been 6-4 if a few plays happened different in each of the indiana, Psu,and michigan games. Sure wish Peppers, and Butt didn't get hurt .

I have to be honest, this whole "conference success in bowls" doesn't mean anything, and never has. Sometimes the Big 10 does well, sometimes they don't. OSU won the whole thing and has constantly been very damn good. MSU has had a ton of bowl success recently other than the playoff, Michigan's had good moments, etc...

It's such a cyclical thing and you can basically get nothing solid in terms of evidence on way or another.

especially since the bowls are all meaningless!!

but they will say how they are meaningless out of one side of their mouths and then talk about how bad the big 10 is because of their bowl record out the other side of their mouths.

Yeah, it's worked both ways where people trashed the Big Ten all season only to have them step up and do well in bowl games, and other years where the Big Ten was highly thought of and they fell flat in the bowls.

Though looking at PSU yesterday, even though they lost, I do wonder if more weight should be given to teams that appear to be surging late in the season in regards to the playoff vs giving those results in September equal weight. Heck USC if they had only 2 instead of 3 losses could have been a team in that conversation too. I'd been saying all along that OSU had the better resume than PSU, but hard to say now in retrospect that OSU deserved to be in that playoff. Heck I'm at a complete loss now to name a 4th team that should have been in there.
