What is MSU's Major Malfunction?

Yeah I think you could have a class dedicated to team dynamics in the locker room.

That would be a big one with professional baseball. Those seem to have the most cliques of any sport when you hear about the media reports. African Americans, Latino, white, you always hear stories about how those different segments form during a season.

And I would be absolutely stunned if Malik returned next season after what happened this year.

Yeah...he probably already "checked out."

Their biggest problem with Malik is that he gets double teamed so much because the rest of their d-line isn't good.

I am headed down to Houston on Saturday for a cruise that leaves Sunday. I'll be scrambling to find a sports bar that is going to show the game. I'm curious if they will be able to access regional ESPN coverage if we asked.

Uhh, it's a Jim Harbaugh move too. Michigan essentially has two OC's (run game/pass game) and they both coach specific units (OL/WR). Of course it helps that they're competent, high performing individuals.

The Buckeyes have had 2 DCs for a few years now as well.

As far as uofm's 2 OCs being high performing, I think you should wait until they play a real defense before you give them that label - competent, maybe but high performing, too early to tell. It won't be this week but eventually, you might have to face a good one.

there are a couple UM bars here...

Not sure where you'll be, but these are guaranteed to have the game on and audio. Just google map them:
The Local Pour, 1952 West Gray St.
Little J's Sports Bar, 5306 Washington
Christian's Tailgate, 2000 Bagby St.

I haven't been to any myself, but I know the Local Pour is in a pretty upscale area, and is a quieter, older alumni scene. That's probably where I'd go, since I'm not a very cool guy anymore.

I've heard Little J's and Christian's Tailgate are for younger (20 something) crowds. not sure how early you need to get there to get a seat.

Wisconsin doesn't have a real defense?

Well, we are flying into Houston and from there we have most of the day to waste until we drive out to Galveston later in the evening. The ship leaves Sunday morning.

Do you live in Houston?

And one more dumb question, when you say U of M bars, are they owned by U of M alum, or just you know they'll have the game on?

touche. I forgot about Drevno's dual role there. I didn't realize Fisch would be considered a co-OC though. It seems to me like there's a clear "chain of command"... and as OC, Drevno calls the shots on gamedag. and I also presume Harbaugh is hands-on enough to discover and resolve any conflicts before they affect on field performance.

Not sure how that's supposed to work in MSU's case. this article sounds like Dantonio is worn out and losing the stomach for the fight, and having a team captain melt down and get tossed last week looks like this team is devolving into chaos. I can't imagine having 4 coordinators helps resolve that, instead of leading to more confusion, finger pointing, etc. Maybe the structure didn't cause MSU's woes
in the first place, but I can't see it helping.

okay. I work in Houston, but live in the burbs.

I have no idea who owns these bars, but the local alumni association club has listed them as "official" game watching bars, and I know some other alums who have watched games there.

Galveston is about an hour drive, without traffic, FYI.

Okay that's awesome. That's exactly what I was looking for. I was kind of worried that we'd go to any old random Houston bar and they would be watching any/all of the affiliated Texas games.

I know we only put up 14 on Wisconsin, but missed 3 chip shot FGs. We moved the ball just fine, and controlled the game, even if we didn't put them away til the 4th.

Exactly. If special teams did their job in the kicking game, we win that game by 16 points.

Is there such thing as a commute without traffic in Houston? Every time I went there for work the traffic was atrocious.

no. and it's usually made worse by the fact that there are often multiple accidents on every goddamn freeway each day, because people here are dumb, and drive the same way they think.

the highway planning (or lack thereof) and layout contributes to it.

Thanks for the info Champ. That was one of my big Saturday concerns when we fly in. The other is that we are flying an airline that's notorious for shitty service.

Funny tweet back to the spirit of this thread:
Kyle Austin ✔ @kylebaustin
Dantonio's defending Dave Warner. Talks about execution, timing with plays. "I'm going to have great loyalty for our coaches."

The entire country is filled with shitty drivers. I see an accident every day on my way to work in Indy. People need to put down their ****ing phones for 30 minutes and just drive to work. Check them when you get out of the car. There is no reason you should ever wreck on an interstate when the weather is perfect.

That article is Dantonio fuel.

I think it's fair to say that they've performed at a high level over the past year and a half given the circumstances. But I guess even more important than the quality of the OC's is that they're headed by one of the best offensive minds in the country.
