Jussie Smollett Arrest and Charge

This is the Crime of the Century, according to Republitard legal analysts.

Rahm Emanuel is a lame duck piece of shit who's about to be out of office.

I don't have an opinion on Eddie Johnson, but there's going to be a new mayor shortly, and I assume he'll be replaced too... so this is all a lot of grandstanding by two soon-to-be-unemployed guys.

Eddie Johnson has been on the force for 30 years, so certainly he would qualify for a cozy retirement.

If he gets bored I’m sure he could find a gig in the private sector as a security (not securities) analyst.

Emanuel is a multimillionaire I think, from the private sector, and no doubt he could go back into that, maybe he would run for governor or the Senate.

If he wants to change things up, maybe he could pitch the creators of Entourage to do a reboot, and they could create a character for him as Ari Gold’s brother.

Going back to republitard legal analysis, I haven’t been following republitard media this morning.

In post #138 I cited Avena Martin, who was on the DNC rules committee at the last Democratic convention And I listened to to self declared nonpartisan Media attorney Leo Terrell, sometimes on national shows but more well known in the Los Angeles media market, and his opinion is that the evidence was probably somehow compromised.

and what do they have to gain by such grandstanding? They're democrats and they're making as much of a stink about it as any Republican. so is it the Crime of the Century according to Republitard legal analysts and lame duck Democrats? Or are you just blowing more smoke because you don't want to admit you got fooled again by yet another hate crime that never happened?

Well, now I had no idea who Jussie Smollett was, and never expressed any opinion about this until after Tinsel posted about it, but I have said since the beginning of the thread Smollett is an idiot who should be in jail. but nice try, I guess.

Nobody knew who he was until this news hit. Smart of you to not express your opinion until after he was arrested though - maybe you've learned your lesson from all the times you made an ass of yourself rushing to judgment or more likely, you were really busy chasing ambulances that week and didn't get the chance to make an ass of yourself before he was arrested.

I'm guessing it's the latter since you're still making an ass of yourself w/ posts about Emmanuel and Johnson being lame ducks, like that has anything to do with any of this.

I don't know if I've ever cared less about a thread in the Politics forum. Does that make me a racist? Do I just have poor taste in political entertainment?

Listen here fucko, I just feel left out is all. Maybe if I knew who this rando was before it all happened I'd care. 4 pages in and several days old and I can't even find the proper .gif for minimal effort.

not in an of itself but if it's part of a broader tapestry of beliefs where you deny your white privilege, don't see institutional racism in virtually every institution, fail to see police as the biggest threat to minorities in America, believe things other than race like personal responsibility and life choices can affect outcomes, then you might be racist.

Shit.

shame on you.

I knew of this show because there were a bunch of billboards for it around here.

It looked a little too "over the top" for me though.

But I wouldn't have been able to tell you who Jussie Smollett was, or that he was in this show until his arrest... SO I guess his stunt did kinda work... at least with the 30 to 40-something white suburban yuppie demographic I'm in.

and no publicity is bad publicity, right?

I don't think I have ever seen a billboard advertising a TV show. Anyway, they aren't targeting your demographic for this show...they are targeting the African American audience.

The Billboard had a man and a woman staring down the viewer like a couple pyschopaths (I assume the guy was Jussie Smollett?), with a couple lions sitting next to them, and it said "Welcome to the Lyons' Den"... from which I gathered their name was "Lyon" and it was a show about a couple pyschopaths

I thought to myself, "gee that looks really dumb."

AND I know they weren't targeting my demographic... that was a joke. But this publicity stunt DID make me aware of Jussie Smollett's existence, not that I'd ever go see something with him in it.

Even the local news here dedicated a couple minutes this morning to this shit sandwich of a non-story. I guess it's because this case is like tailor-made to piss off the dumb racist old white guy demographic and make them even more racist: "Durr DURRRR DURR DURRR, that black guy thought he could get away with this publicity stunt and blame Trump supporters like ME, and some black lady let him off the hook! THey should both be publicly executed for wasting my taxpayer dollars DURRR!"

I'm sure it is pretty bad down there!

I feel that what he did is a pretty big deal only because he claimed it was a hate crime. I think it's similar to a woman claiming to be raped when it never happened. Of course, it certainly doesn't deserve the media attention it is getting.

False rape accusations harm the public reputation of the accused... who was harmed here?

Sure the city paid thousands (they claim $150,000) to investigate it... and that sounds like A LOT of money, to your average American. But to put this in perspective, the city of Chicago pays out tens of millions of dollars each year defending and settling wrongful death lawsuits by people killed by police, and none of the people complaining about the cost here, from Rahm Emanuel on down, ever so much as bat an eye about those matters. Indeed, they back the same police officers who committed those acts.

Jussie Smollett got fired from his dumb show for this, and had to basically pay a $10K fine. It's not worth paying tens of thousands more to prosecute him for this victimless crime (16 felonies? get real.)..

okay, I'm done here. sorry. this is so stupid, and I've posted more than I wish I had about it already. I'm stupid.

it's a myth. The south, since it became republican is far less racist - less racist than the north, particularly major cities dominated by democrats, the party of racism.

just more lies - people in the City of Chicago are furious about the wrongful death payments which get paid on virtually every officer involved shooting, the overwhelming majority of which are justified. but that doesn't matter, the deceased family sues, they get paid - every time. The police are pissed about it, taxpayers are pissed about it. Maybe the mayor and other elected officials don't care because they need to get reelected in a city where 80% of the voters think they're targets for murder happy police because people like you tell them they are.

The idea that no one was harmed here is absurd. They may not be specific, like in the case of the dook lacrosse team or the UVA frat boys but just because they're diffuse, doesn't mean there's no harm done. This bull shit narrative you and your ilk push about Trump stoking racism has completed divided this country. Every bit of it that has been offered as proof has been bull shit, but it's still being pushed time and again, hoax after hoax. The fact that you never heard about it before seeing this thread (an obvious lie) doesn't make it no big deal.
