2022 Tigers MLB Draft Jace Jung Top Pick and Draft 3rd in the 2023 Lottery Draft

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.

The Detroit Tigers have had an extended winning streak (through Friday?s games). They have now moved out of the basement of the AL Central ? but just barely.

They have also just now been eliminated from the potential of losing 100 games but 99 losses is still a possibility.

While the team has been in the bottom 3 for most of the season, they now appear to have moved up and among the 4th ? 6th worst.

While this may be a good thing, it also puts them in a worse position for next year?s draft order. The new CBA changed the system where the 3 worst teams have the best ? and equal ? chance of selecting the #1 pick. The ones ranking #4 through #6 have slightly lower chances of scoring the top draft pick.

This process will work through a lottery system.

After the bottom 6 teams, the rest of the order (also done via lottery) will be determined by each team?s winning percentage in reverse order.

Currently, the Tigers sit as the 6th worst team, which would garner them the second-best odds. But they are close to ending up in the 7th position or higher which would further decrease their chances of receiving one of the top draft picks.

Potentially, they still have the ability to finish the year at the #3 position, which would put them into the top tier of draft selection.

After Saturday?s game, there are only 5 games left in the season.

What should the Tigers do? Play their best and go for the wins and therefore potentially lower their draft order?

Or should they finish the year by tanking in order to garner better odds in their draft selection order?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.
Ready?

What should the Tigers prioritize as they finish out the year?

1. Win as many games as possible.

2. Tank in order to improve their draft order odds.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.

Scott Harris officially took over yesterday after several weeks of greeting and meeting as many within the organization as he could. Yesterday, he presumably got to work making some decisions and coordinating with other departments on various projects.

Undoubtedly, Harris has one of MLB?s longest to-do lists. He will be touching every department within the organization. With some, he?ll go more in-depth. With others, he may only have time for a quick dive.

When an organization is being restructured, it?s not all going to happen in one year. Harris will focus on the areas needing the most attention while systematically digging through layers over time with other departments.

All we know right now is that he said there will be significant changes. Both he and Manager A. J. Hinch have diplomatically stated several times that no one?s job is safe. You can also probably include Paws in that statement.

Of course, Scott will have his laundry list of priorities. And there are undoubtedly many.

But which are the most important?

Which ones should he tackle first?

Which ones, if addressed first, will positively influence and create changes in the other areas needing attention?

What do you think?

Today, I?ve put together a list of 5 hot-button areas needing attention. By all means, this is not a complete list but a substantial one. And I guarantee that every one of you will find the issue you feel is most pressing.

Your assignment?

Tell us which one ( to paraphrase Sean Connery?s infamous line ?1 point only.?) of these 5 is the most important one to prioritize and why.

Player development
Roster revamp
Next week, I?ll report on the results.

We?re very happy with that considering the sixth worst record last year.

Probably should be noted that the Competitive Balance Round A pick the Tigers received is eligible to be traded once.

Pick #36 might be Scott Harris? most valuable trade piece right now beyond Riley Greene and perhaps Jackson Jobe.

2023 MLB MOCK DRAFT 1.0 Tigers here for a SS.

Here we are again. The first ever MLB Draft Lottery brought in a new way the league determines the draft order. It was very exciting and seems to give the draft even more growth in popularity, which we?ve seen a steady climb in for nearly 10 years now.

This year?s class is lush with bats and slim with arms, as it stands presently. But like any early mock draft, things always change. Each mock molds itself with players rising and falling as the college and high school seasons go on. I?ll say this about the 2023 draft, though, it?s very, very deep.
