Official 2019 Draft

what exactly is the Lion's scheme? Is it the scheme that can't stop the run, can't get to the QB and can't cover anybody? I don't think you have to be a certain type of player to qualify for that.

It's the Patriots scheme that Collins thrived in. You know the one Patricia ran super well so he got a head coaching job.

He can rush the QB, stop the run and cover. Patricia has the right personnel now with health. Top 5 secondary in the league, revamped LBs with a game changer in Collins, more pass rush with Collins, Hand, Williams, Okwara, Bryant healthy and Flowers healthy.

This 2020 roster should be able do it all. Now execute. The coaching is there for it too.

Patricia is a moron. He got the Lions job because he "ran" NE's defense but everyone knows that BB runs the D in NE.

2 years after Patricia leaves NE and NE's D was #1 in the NFL. 2 years in Detroit and the Lion's D was #31 in the NLF. :lmao:

Okudah/Swift, Hock/Tavai is the optimal combo. Best CB (Greedy sucks BTW), best TE (Hock has Gronk potential) and a LB just as good as Bush with better size

Bush did not outperform Tavai, especially when looking at grades. And Bush is clearly too small for the Lions scheme. We'll see how they do in year 2. So far Tavai>Bush plus we get Hock in this deal. Win win for the Lions.

You guys are on the hype train for Bush, you should be on the hype train for Hock. He has way more potential than Bush as a player.

Also Collins>>>>>>Bush too. So glad we didn't just take Bush and be done with it. We got two good guys in Collins/Tavai. And now Davis can blitz more which is what he does best

Okudah showed he can cover for 1 second until Chase Young got to the qb. Can he cover for the 6 seconds it going to take Danny Shelton to get to the qb?

Swift was a great rb in college. So was Best, Leshoure, abdullah and Kerryon...the Lions ruined them all. Just cause we draft a rb in the 2nd round and a bunch of new guards....doesnt mean anything will change. We've literally seen 10 years of them trying to do this with no change. Im not expecting any change this year....prove me wrong Lions!...dare you.

This defense was brutal in last years draft...we picked a TE.

This defense was worse in this years draft....we let go our pro bowl corner and replaced him with a rookie then selected a rb.

The defense is going to be bad. Real bad. We were the worst in the nfl and replaced a bunch of players with guys that are even more worse! lol.

Stafford gets a run game and puts up 40 points a game...or else this team is destined for 6-7 wins.

Kerryon had 5.1 YPC his rookie year. And the Lions for sure beefed up their run blocking. Added 3 good ones to 2 already good ones..

The defense was injured last year and had less pieces than we have currently. That made it brutal. Give me Harmon over Diggs. Give me Okudah/Trufant combo over Slay/Melvin. Give me healthy Hand, Flowers, Walker, Davis etc

The defense can be top 10. Patricia has all the pieces. BB had health for his defense and now Patricia has the pieces and hopefully the health. He is a good defensive mind. BB played some of the worst offenses ever last year for the hot start.

Stafford alone gets them to 7-8 wins. Remember the 3-4-1 start that was really 6-2 if not for refs. Defense for a handful of other games can get them to 10 or 11. If the defense is good watch out.

And I think we do have the running game. Improved at least. The running game insurance policy is there, it's clear the run blocking is upgraded.

Lions face 5 top 10 runs defenses (Bears twice, Bucs, Colts, Saints), 4 middle of the pack (Titans, Vikings twice, Falcons) and 7 bad ones at 20 or worse (Packers twice, Cardinals, Redskins, Jags, Panthers, Texans). They should be able to run the ball with the improvements, RB insurance with a good back on the field at all times, KJ back to 2018 form etc.

Lions can drop 30-35 PPG with this offense. And defense can be top 10. We dont' need both but the talent and coaching is there. Stay healthy and execute. Heck Lions with 20th ranked defense and this offense win 10-11 games with a playoff run in them

over the past 10 seasons, only 14 times has an offense averaged over 30 points a game. That is 14 times out of 320.

Stafford was on pace for most TDS in the league and had higher QB rating than Maholmes. Run game is there. Lions have all the pieces for 30 PPG on offense

It can be done

Lions 2011 had 29.6. They can do it with this version of the team

Regrading the 2019 draft

8. DETROIT LIONS: TE T.J. HOCKENSON

Hockenson impressed in his NFL debut back in Week 1 of 2019 but failed to make a dent after that. That was far from the case this year, as he came away with the eighth-best PFF grade at his position.

The second-year tight end turned 16 of his targets into a gain of 15 or more yards, the fifth-most at the position. And while he hasn?t won as much as we would have hoped when lined up at receiver, Hockenson has been among the most productive inline tight ends in the game. On those plays, the Iowa product ranked fourth in yards per route run in 2020 (2.09).

REGRADE: AVERAGE

Hock was super productive this year. One of the top tight ends. Good run blocker too. Good player at pick 8. Let's see if becomes great

I stand corrected...the Lions are capable of 30+ points a game and accomplished that and then some this year. 32.4 points per game. Truly amazing!

oops, that was what they gave up per game.

the offense scored 23.5

another swing an miss by LKP:lmao:

There were major injuries you dipshit. Golladay plays 16, they score 30 PPG

ah yes...good old KG...the only WR in the history of the NFL that misses 11 games and costs the team 103 points? KG would have had to have had 15 TDs in those 11 games all while the rest of the team got the same number they actually did. In those 11 games, the Lions would have scored over 9 more points per game. If that's the impact of KG, he is worth $25M a year. :lmao:

Of course, he doesn't have that kind of impact...he's just another guy. He's good, but nothing special.

KG led the league in TDS in 2019. You lose bub

We can talk about Swift injury and Staffords multiple and Vaitai and Crosby and Ragnow and Prater missing 7 FGs

And an unknown historically bad defense vs expected average at least that you lose TOP, changes the game situations and doesn't get you near as many short fields as the QBS leading teams to 30 PPG this year. There were more than ever this year.

everyone on this board knew that the defense was going to suck...you were the only moron that thought they were going to be top 10 :lmao:

Nope. And nobody said historically suck. Injuries biggest reason that happened

Suck + historical suck = sucks.

Some said average, below average. Nobody said 32 and riddled with injuries. They could have been at least average with better health. But that is not what happened

Believe the only games we had Flowers (out 9), Coleman and Trufant together was Week 1 until 3rd Quarter when we were dominating. Then Trufant/Coleman get hurt. They come back for a bit then Flowers hurt, then Trufant hurt again later. Plus Okudah out for like 7 games including final 6. Hand for 6 games same time as Flowers. Shelton for 4 games (same times as Flowers and Hand), Nick Williams 2 games, J Okwara 9 games, Griffen 2 games (same time as Flowers, Hand and Shelton)

Throw in KG for 11, Swift for 3, Vaita for 6, Ragnow 2, Stafford injuries plus really missed the Bucs game, Amendola (2 same time as KG/Swift)

Passing game was good, run game lacked other than Swift and had some injuries but less than the defense. But the Texans/Panthers offense games were missing some weapons for sure in 2 bad performances with some fumbles in the Texans game. And Will Fuller having a career day then getting suspended for cheating the next week.

The Dline and CBs were decimated.

Stafford, Swift, Hock, Decker, Ragnow are building blocks. Vaitai could be somthing

Flowers is a building block. Walker and Hand are good but in contract years. Collins would be fine for 2 more years too. Romeo Okwara is a FA but could be a building block as 2nd DE. AO could be a starter for 2 more seasons.

Need some LBs, safeties, one vet CB (when they cut Trufant) and DTs if when cut Shelton/Williams and one DE with Okwara/Griffen as FAs.

Offense most of the building blocks. Defense has a few.
