We will not be taking a first round QB or Edge. The lions love Goff no matter what anyone else says and our Edge guys got pressure last year and supported the run well and our two rookies will have a whole offseason of growth.

We'll get trade down or a DB at 6. Outside shot of a guy like Bresee getting picked, but I hope we won't because I think he's overrated. ND destroyed him with their soon to be drafted interior guys. I like Calijah Kancey a million times more.

Just wanted to start a new thread. All these mocks I've seen are dogshit.

6. Devon Witherspoon CB
18. Calijah Kancey DT
2nd rounds - Jack Campbell LB, Ryan Hayes G
3rd - Max Duggan Qb - whatever happened in the title game, he fits too well with the Grit theme of the team

And, a surprising number of mocks have us taking a TE in Round 1. Not only no, but FUCK no.

I can't see that happening. When we traded Hock one of the reasons was because Johnsons offense doesn't really feature a TE. I can't imagine us using a 1st or even a 2nd on a TE.

Probably just "experts" seeing a big void and filling it. I bet we grab a mid tier TE in free agency or a 3rd day pick and that's it.

We absolutely could take an edge rusher. Why would we rule that out?

In the 1st round? Coaches love houston and paschal and both had huge flashes. There's zero chance we go Edge unless Paschal has some lingering injury that keepsnhim off the field. Why would we waste a pick on a guy that might not even start over what we have? I'll be shocked if we take one anywhere near the 1st round.

I don't think we pick DE. People on the roster that can play opposite Hutch...

Charles Harris
James Houston
Romeo okwara
Julian okwara
Resign comisky

Do I think a DE by committee is the right answer? No... it basically means you don't have anyone elite. But when I look at myles Murphy ...I just don't think he ends up being anything more than Romeo okwara.

Love the mock... I'll have to look up kancey.... haven't seen that name mocked very high before.

I've also been doing alot of YouTube scouting the lb class. There's alot of rd 2 and 3 projected guys. I think it's going to depend if they are looking to improve a cover guy like thor or upgrade our gap filler Rodrigo. Overshown in the 2nd from Texas or ivan pace Jr in the 3rd could be targets. Lbs tend to slide... I'm hoping Sewell falls to us in the 2nd.

James Houston is 240 lbs. He is a pass rush specialist. He is NOT.....NOT.....an every down DE. He would get obliterated as an every down DE.

I do like Paschal and the coaching staff seems to love him.....but I bet if there is a DE that they really like that falls to 18 we would grab him. No, I do not think that is their focus. No, that is not what I want. That being said, without an elite DT another top tier pass rusher is a need. It's not as if we fixed our pass rushing issue.

I'd rather have Javon Hargrave at DT than take a DE in the 1st round......but we need more pass rushers......especially someone who can get to the QB from inside.

Hutch, Romeo and Charles Harris are all open ends on the weak side. One of Romeo or Charles will be cap cut

Closed end is Paschal and Cominsky who I think we definitely need to re-sign and both can play some DT. They play less DT if we get a good pass rushing DT.

Rush LBS/Edge are Houston and Owkara. Both on cheap rookie deals so makes sense to still keep JO if he can stay healthy for 2023. No need to replace as Houston is the "starter" "way more snaps in a game" now here over JO. They only seem to play when they move Cominsky/Paschal to DT.

So closed end would be the only need if they don't re-sign Cominsky. Murphy or Wilson could fill Cominsky' role in this draft. Can never have enough pass rushers though so maybe Cominsky re-signed and plays more DT in rush situations and still draft a closed end to split time with Paschal.

Otherwise, pure DT like Breesee or Kancey in play. NT to replace Buggs and keep McNeil at 3 tech. But think McNeil should move back to NT with a good pass rushing DT. Then of course Levi will probably never play who was supposesd to be that 3 tech

I think we need to re-sign Buggs. He was effective the last 6 or 7 weeks and he would be a great "depth" signing assuming we upgrade his spot in the draft.

At one point Harris, Paschal, Cominsky, Romeo and Julian Okwara were all hurt and not playing too at the same time. On top of Levi. and Houston on the practice squad

Doesn't hurt to add one more edge really given that many injuries that can happen too if its the right fit in Round 1 and they can play some DT too

I forget Levi is even on the roster.

I wonder if FanDuel has a bet on who gets injured first in 2023......Swift or Levi?

so if Will Anderson is there at 6 the Lions don't take him?

Really, why?

Well, someone above told me James Houston is too small to play 3 downs because he's only 240lbs. Will Anderson is 243 and actually might be less because teams always inflate sizes.

Also watched him this year a bit and he got pushed around much more than last. Wasn't a bad year, but he seemed to regress and not rise to the occasion. I have a feeling he might slip to us at 6.

If we're going edge, I'd prefer Wilson.

you may be right about Anderson, but there is an equal chance that you are wrong. My point is if Anderson or any other edge is an elite talent, you absolutely take him at 6. Having two great edge rushers can make a huge impact on a defense.
