Fister Traded, now is retiring from baseball

Let's run through DD's accomplishments this off-season,

-Traded Fielder's bad contract + $30 million for Kinsler's shorter bad contract
-Didn't make a qualifying offer to Peralta
-Re-signed Don Kelly
-Traded Fister for a lefty specialist, a backup IF, and a mid-level pitching prospect

What else did I miss?

I'm half expecting to see a story come out tomorrow saying the Tigers have signed Scherzer to a 7-year, $200 million contract

The pessimist in me says this team is either being gutted or DD is freeing up money for a terrible signing.

If we are gutting the team to make room for scherzer we are never winning anything. This is a shit trade.

But instead of getting mad I am going to forget baseball exists for a while. Not worth getting mad over.

I seriously want to set something on fire right now.

Whatever (or whoever) you decide to set ablaze must be filmed for upload to LiveLeak or ^ to YouTube and s/b accompanied with a Def Leppard soundtrack.

I absolutely love all you fair weather fans out there bashing DD... Cursing him today then when he makes the move this off season that he has been setting up for the entire time, you all will praise him and totally forget what you were bitching about.

Seriously, how much do the Tigers pay Lynn Henning for this drivel?

"@SteveWelsh44 If you pick up two good young arms for one good arm, and add a versatile switch-hitting fill-in, good deal for two teams."

I love how all Tigers fans already know Ian Krol and Robbie Ray are garbage before they even have thrown a pitch in a Detroit uniform.

You obviously know nothing of this board or the regulars who post here.

Ehhh I may not have many posts but I've been here since we first moved from the ESPN board... And I thought the "regulars" would know more than to get all butt hurt over this move.

It was a garbage trade, the second of the year where we got a shit return on a quality player. At least the first offered some salary relief in the future, this one offers nothing.

And if you read this board much, you would know we don't "forget" things like this when another something happens....some people here are still bitching about the Jarrod Washburn trade for fucks sake.

This trade will still suck no matter what happens.

Traded a cost-controlled #3 SP in Fister (who could be a #2 if not their ace SP for many other teams) with upside for BP LOOGY depth and a scrub who essentially replaces and becomes a worse Ramon Santiago on the bench is a fucking horrible deal, IMO.

It's a natural reaction to a pretty surprising move. Fister was highly regarded around here, and fans liked having him on the team for the most part. There were talks about the Tigers trading a pitcher but it was always Scherzer or Porcello's name that kept being brought up. I don't think anyone was quite prepared for this.

You are right, perhaps these other players will play well for the Tigers and everything will work out fine. Maybe they won't though, who can say? However Fister was a known commodity around here, and these other players are not. It's disconcerting to trade a player that we know will give us quality starting pitching for players that we have no idea what they will provide. I don't see how this trade freed up that much money, and many national writers are saying we could have gotten much more in return for him. What exactly is there to like?

I'd say it's ok to vent a little. I was a big fan of Doug the person too, so I'm sad he's gone.

Nats fans are ecstatic on Twitter right now. I browsed a couple other Tigers forums, and those who are "okay" with this trade are nearly non-existent, but they are really just trying to defend DD for his "ill-advised" move of Fister.

in related news the Oakland A's are looking to give washed up pitcher Scott Kasmir a 2 year $22 million deal. Meanwhile DD is counting up the $8 million that he saved by giving away Doug Fister.

players deal for starting pitching....losers trade away starting pitching. The fact he was only going to make 7 mil makes it dumb on every level possible.

Say fister came to him and asked to be traded and DD HAD to do it for some dumb reason....youd still think youd be able to get back more than what crap we got.

Just none of this makes sense lol.

I can just imagine DD wanted the two young guys and the Nats GM said "You gotta take Lombozzziozzioazzio" and DD is like "I don't want him" and the Nats GM would say "if you want this deal you have to take him" because why else would lomarrizzioazzio be included. He adds nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Coke?

It isn't just "Tiger fans"...it is pretty much anyone who has written about this story.

Krol = LOOGY and/or 7th inning type pitcher. Probably not much different than Phil Coke

Ray = Projects to maybe be a #5 starter if he stays as a starter (averages 4 walks a game), otherwise he is also destined to be a LOOGY

Now this deal would have still stunk if we sent Porcello instead, just not as bad.

I am one of the ones that because he was under team control longer, Fister had more value than Scherzer. And I expected more for a #2 starter under team control for 2 full years.

I also don't believe in trading for relief pitchers and utility infielders. They are a dime a dozen on the scrap heap.
