Just curious to see what fans think we can get from him next season. Is it too much to ask for a stat line of .272/.318/.408/.726 with 70 RBI?

That is the production the Tigers got out of the 7 spot last year. Most likely where he will be hitting in the order.

That seems a little high to me given that he's a rookie and switching positions (albeit back to his primary one). I'd expect a lower AVG and fewer RBI at a minimum, but certainly hope I'm wrong on that.

Hopefully Nick will be at least adequate defensively @3B, otherwise Ausmus may be forced to lift him for a defensive replacement such as..ugh...Donnie Kelly during the late innings of close games when the Tigers may hold a slim lead. At this point, ONLY Donnie Kelly is available to sub @ 3B unless they were to move Cabrera back there and play VMart @ 1B. That might mean thart Lombardozzi would need to DH...ugh!!

Thanks DD for the lump of coal in Tigers fans Christmas stockings that was the Fister fleecing. This trade looks worse and worse by the day, especially now that he signed Davis. Lots of luck with an offensively challenged postseason team that has been rebuilt into an offensively challenged regular-season team with the potential of being worse defensively and especially offensively in the infield with the Three Scrub Stooges of Kelly (1B/3B) Lombardozzi (2B/SS?) and Holaday C being their bench backups...gahhhh!! :ugh:

I agreed with much of this...until we got to the part where you think were worse defensively. I think the IF defense is better since we wont have prince and miggy both on the corners. Iggy full time is an improvement over peralta. maybe we lost a tad defensively at 2b????...maybe....

If DDs plan for the offseason was to become a faster, better defensive team with an improved bullpen...he accomplished that. Are we worse offensively and at starting pitcher???? absolutely. Im rarely a GM apologist if you have seen any of my posts on the lions board.....but if Im DD and I look at the last 2 postseasons.....my bullpen has lost me a chance at the world series. If you had a concussion....would you keep bashing your head against a wall??

He dumped fisters salary in an awful trade so he could sign a closer. Some of you felt comfortable with Benoit.....I sure as hell didn't. To be honest I don't fell much more comfortable with a 41 yr old closer either....but we will have to wait and see how it plays out.

They've lost Benoit, Veras, and Smyly from the bullpen
They've added Nathan and Krol

I don't see that as much of an improvement, Nathan isn't worth much if they can't get to the 9th with a lead

Not sure what postseasons, but the ones I saw was where the offense was absent, especially after the 6th inning.

We got worse at this, because we lost a bunch of HR power and replaced with speed. Down 2 runs in the 9th, a HR helps more than a first to third or stolen base.

Not sure what postseason but all I saw was a fatty striking out with risp. And ya...if you need to remember how bad our bp was....move to boston....they'll be replaying the grand slam for the next 40 years.

That only explains 1 game in the two post seasons you were bitching about.

Bottom line, while you need to prevent the opposition from scoring, you also need to do your own scoring. This team took a huge step backwards.

I hated benoit....we didn't use veras....and I'm not sure how much the loss of a long relief guy is when were among the league leaders in quality starts.

Didn't jv set a scoreless innings record this postseason and didn't even win a game during that stretch? I know the bp lost games for max a couple times. Bp was bad.

That's your problem. You only see the things you plan to bitch about later on.

Smyly was not long relief. And even if you hated him, Benoit was one of the best bullpen pitchers the last 3 years.

Smyly wasn't used strictly for long relief all that much. He never pitched more than 2 innings in a game during 2nd half of the season (76 IP in 63 games overall).

Benoit, Smyly, and Veras now replaced with Nathan, Krol, and Chamberlain

I'm glad to see Nathan here, but I'm not sure the other additions outweigh the subtractions.

Cause that's saying a lot. Benoit is better than who? Valverde? Whippidy doo....

Ok lets analyze this "huge step backwards"....and feel free to debate where I went wrong.

Everyone on here is expecting nick to hit .270 with about 20 homers. Prince fielder made a cazillion more dollars than nick and hit 25 homers.

In order to unload that contract we'll be paying too much for kinsler who hits for about the same average as infante but has a little more pop.

I'm not seeing where this huge step bacward from the offense is comming from.

We knew the day that prince signed it...he'd never be worth his contract. Its a miracle we dumped it.

That's kind of my point..how important is smyly in the bullpen really if leyland already had someone slated fir the 8th and someone else for the 9th? Couple that with the fact our starters seem to always go atleast 5.....so you're now missing a guy that sometimes worked 6 and 7....between joba, aa, new guy....I'm sure ausmus can figure that out.

I think the majority here feel that there is a big dropoff from Prince to Nick which is probably a reasonable assumption unless Nick does hit 20HR and .800 OPS. Both are very unlikely. I don't see the dropoff in offense from Infante to Kinsler. There will be a big drop off from Peralta to Iggy. Production from the LF position should be pretty much the same as last year.
