Tired of talking about 2013 and before.....

Loaded with talent. Injuries, turnovers and coaching screwed him despite making the right calls most of the time on players. Best, Broyles, Young, LeShoure, franchising Avril, extending Schwartz in 2012 were all the right calls at the time.

teams loaded with talent can overcome injuries. Coaches that were hired by Mayhew. Best, Broyles, Avril and extending Schwartz were not the right calls.

They were the right calls at the time.

And there were too many injuries. Down to 3rd and 4th string. Concentrated injuries can screw you. Especially at WR/TE and DBs.

Seahawks lose Sherman and Chancellor they are screwed too.

25. Martin Mayhew - Lions

Mayhew?s first draft pick was a franchise quarterback who?s still only 26 years old. The next year, he landed one of the best defensive players of a generation. That?s on top of the all-time great he inherited at receiver. So the question is, why has Mayhew?s team been so bad for the majority of his tenure? Mayhew has building blocks that are the envy of the league, but has too often surrounded them with knuckleheads and busts. One thing Mayhew got right was firing the league?s most undisciplined head coach, Jim Schwartz. Who did he replace him with? Jim Caldwell, a coach who oversaw one of the worst implosions in league history at his last job. Mayhew knows high-end talent when he sees it. He rarely misses in the first round. It?s the rest of the roster that seems to elude him. Mayhew has built an impressive foundation in Detroit, but doesn?t appear to be the man to finish the building.

Rotoworld is awful.

Caldwell has been a very successful coach. Lost Peyton Manning and didn't turn to Dan O soon enough. Judging Caldwell on 2011 alone is all you need to know about that article, beyond dumb.

I feel the bile rising to the top of my throat as I type this.... but I have to agree with LKP on this.

Rotoworld is good for quick snippets of information on a player's fantasy value for this week, but as an analytic source, they rank right up there with Twitter. In fact, some of their opinions don't deserve 140 characters.

And I don't care who the coach is, when you lose Peyton Manning for the entire season, 2-14 is a pretty darned good record.

Just like Green Bay last year, Indy had ZERO backup plan for a Manning injury. In the case of Rodgers, their GM scrambled to find a QB to keep them afloat for a few games.

In the case of Manning, they knew he wasn't coming back that year, and decided to let things play out exactly like they were for a shot at Luck.

I am not saying they "tanked" games. They didn't. But there were QB's available, and their GM did absolutely nothing to bring one in. He rolled with Painter and Orlovski, knowing it would mean the #1 pick in the draft.

Kirk Cousins was out there to be had. Kyle Orton. Brady Quinn. Derek Anderson.

Hey none of those names make you wanna rub one out in glee, but you can't argue they had better odds of winning than Painter did.

That was a championship calibre team that went down in flames because the GM wanted to land Luck, not sure if Manning would ever play again. You can't blame that on Caldwell in any way shape or form, his hands were tied.

Caldwell got a huge chance at Wake Forest. He was there for awhile. They were pathetic. His track record as an HC is not strong.

As much as it pains us to admit it, he was their Plan B after Wisenhunt said no. Hopefully he brings the Lions success, but he doesn't have some stellar track record. If so, teams would have been knocking at his door.

So the Ravens call up (because they were confident Ebron would drop to them), and offer the Lions their spot, plus their 2nd and next year's first (no idea what will be offered, all hypothetical). I would be absolutely disgusted if the Lions didn't get a chance to hear offers that would add much needed depth and talent just because they have to run their pick up for whatever reason.

There's ZERO harm in waiting for the clock to run down:

5 minutes to go: "Ebron still our pick? Okay great"
4 minutes (no calls): "Still good with Ebron?" "Awesome."
3 minutes (someone calls): "Nah, we don't like it, still got Ebron"
2, 1 minutes left: "Wow, team X is offering the farm for this guy, they are freaking the F out!" "But no, we still have our heart set on him."

No problem. Still got your guy, and heard offers. And used the clock that is provided by the NFL for a reason. The job of a management is to explore EVERY option, and use every resource available at your disposal. Millen ran his picks up there like his pants were on fire (I remember, watched it happen way too much). I don't get the urgency at all. No reason for it.

I'm not trying to make a war out of this. But I just fundamentally disagree with busting your nut about speeding that card up there.

Still beating the hell out of this, eh lol. Now you're putting scenarios in your head too? Fuck, man, let it go....

2 Super Bowl rings. And good luck to Wisenhunt! No QB, rookie RB, suspect WRs and a middle of the road defense! lol...fuck him.

Ask yourself this bro....

Would you trade Calvin John, as a rookie, for a first and second round pick?

Because that's essentially what you are saying. No matter how much you believe in a guy, no matter how "once in a lifetime" you think that guy is, you should listen to offers to move him.

If they believe Ebron is that special player, that truly elite talent, there's no reason to listen to offers or to waste any time. They take the guy.

Hell, send a message to the player even. "We wanted you so much, it took us 15 seconds to turn in the pick, and our courier tripped twice on the way to the podium or it would have been quicker".

There isn't always a reason to listen to offers. When your mind is made up, it's made up. Hell, we have a GM who is decisive and doesn't flounder around. Thats a first in a long logn time. We should be glad for that.

Now he just has to prove his decisions are the right ones, and until I see a Lombardi trophy, I'm not buying it.

and Andrew luck took a 2 win team back to the playoffs year after year after year. Our #1 pick qb takes us to 11 wins in 2 years.....nice job....obviously, no holes anywhere.

Cousins was part of the same draft as Luck and RGIII. Orton, Quinn and Anderson were arguably the same QB as Painter given they weren't in the system. There was no plan B and Caldwell had to hold the flaming bag of poop.

Happy Birthday.

Would you trade MIKE WILLIAMS, as a rookie, for a first and second round pick?

fixed

CJ was picked 2nd overall and was considered by most the best talent in the draft. Mike Williams is more like Ebron...picked at #10, similar in size, 4.6 speed and many teams didn't think he was worth a top 10 pick.

So, would you trade Mike Williams for a 1st & 2nd round pick?

Holy shit, now we're completely making shit up about Ebron? He's Mike Williams?!?! lmfao. Mike Williams was a fat lazy piece of shit and was a year out of football when we drafted him. And he was a WR!! The 2 are not even close to being similar. Hate the pick all you want, but for Pete's sakes, stop making shit up lol.

And what teams didn't think Ebron was a top 10 pick? Because the first 9 teams in the draft didn't pick him? Wheres your proof on that statement? You fn guys just throw shit against the wall and pray it sticks. Comical. Show me a link where theres a GM who says that about Ebron....just one.

I was just pointing out the similarities...he wanted to compare him to CJ who was picked at 2, a physical FREAK who ran a 4.3 40 and was selected at #2. Ebron rant a 4.6 and so did Williams. Both are about 6'5". Both were picked at 10.

I agree that Williams was a POS...but if Ink wanted to throw out a hypothetical trade scenario Mike Williams is a better choice than CJ.

The entire draft class of tight ends is a weak one, according to one NFL personnel executive, and the fool's gold starts at the top with North Carolina's Eric Ebron. The former Tar Heel is widely regarded as the draft's top prospect at the position and has been projected as high as the No. 9 overall pick to the Buffalo Bills, but at least one club will have a strong voice against him when his name comes up.

"He's OK. He's completely overrated, and he's a pain in the (butt)," an AFC personnel executive told nj.com. "And don't ask him to block anybody, because he's not going to do it."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...utive-blasts-eric-ebron-entire-te-draft-class

Now there's someone who wouldn't touch Ebron with a pick anywhere near as high as No. 9. Ebron has also been projected to the New York Giants at No. 12 by NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah, and No. 17 to the Baltimore Ravens by analyst Charles Davis. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but Ebron didn't even catch the worst of it. Washington's Austin Seferian-Jenkins, potentially a second-round pick, wasn't spared, either.

"He's more overrated and a bigger pain in the (butt) than the other guy," he said. "And he blocks like a wide receiver. I don't want any part of him."

The same exec went on to devalue the entire class at the position, which includes another potential first-round pick in Texas Tech's Jace Amaro, a second-round projection in Notre Dame's Troy Niklas, and a projected second-day pick in Iowa's C.J. Fiedorowicz.

"It's not good at all. I wish it was. But it's not," he added. "It's actually a bad year for tight ends. There's nobody even close to (Tyler) Eifert (drafted No. 21 by Bengals last year). (Eagles 2013 second-rounder Zach) Ertz is better than these guys."

It can certainly be argued that the tight end class is thin on depth, particularly for clubs in search of an in-line blocker at the position, rather than the slot-type receiving tight end that has taken a commanding presence in more than a few NFL offenses.

If Ebron is headed for Bustville, however, it will come as a surprise to the other scouts nj.com spoke with

From Bill Polian

Polian, a six-time NFL Executive of the Year, said of Ebron. "I don't think he's ready to play in the NFL right now. I think he's too immature. I don't think his feet are firmly planted on the ground. Yeah, he has ability but that only gets you so far."
