Helmet stickers and legends jerseys

This is the mindset that leads to tatgate; and the facsimiles thereof.

Yeah, that was the dumbest thing said in a long series of dumb things. An NC is the pinnacle but there are probably hundreds of individual and team accolades worth celebrating in college football every year.

The legends jersey thing was a complete bust. I can't think of a player that lived up to wearing one. Stupid idea.

Junior Hemmingway, maybe? That's all I got.

The idea by itself wasn't completely terrible. Junior getting the Desmond patch was a special thing at the time. And I think the game he got it, he went nuts and had a big game or made some big plays. But after about the tenth Legend Jersey was handed out it transformed into the stupidest thing imaginable, culminating in Devin's disastrous season wearing 98. Devin deserved better than Brady and Brandon...

It isn't dumb. Those accolades are not always awarded during the season, typically they are after the season, which I have no issue with doing after the season.

Just because a person has an opposing view, it isn't dumb. Some of you guys really take your side to an extreme in order to make your point. I Do NOT have to share your OPINION on these matters. Coach wants to do it, fine, but I have the right to voice an objection. You have the right to disagree with me too.

And I never advocated cheating, that is what lead to Tatgate. I was saying having a focus on winning the NC without giving helmet stickers for prior performance is my preference. Not even remotely the same when done with ethics and willingness to follow the rules being emphasized as well.

What leads to national championships is what led to the national championship in 1997.

It was really pretty simple. For a number of years, Michigan had played a not very good season, for most of the season, and then would beat Ohio State and win whatever bowl game and went to.

Then Charles Woodson realized something. He said to all his team
Mates "Hey-let's play every game as if it were the last game of the year."

That's how national championships are won. The team doesn't worry about the national championship-the team only worries about the game ahead-actually the play ahead.

Exactly. Focus on what is ahead. Can't live in the glories of the past (beating OSU and then winning bowl game previous season), you have to stay focused on what is ahead of you. This is what I am saying. The goal is to win the NC, you accomplish that by taking the next thing ahead of you, staying focused on that, and once that is accomplished you celebrate briefly getting over that hurdle, then get back to business.

That's just my preferred method of doing it. To each their own, and if JH wants to use the helmet stickers, fine...I just prefer a different approach, that's all.

If I'm choosing football coaches and it's between you and Harbaugh, I take Harbaugh and his stickers every time.

But that's just my opinion and I'm entitled to my opinion

Wow, that's a huge leap of faith there.

And if I had to choose between Bo having helmet stickers and Lloyd not having them, I'd go with Lloyd.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.......

what if instead of helmet stickers, we award merit badges, like in boy scouts?

you could get a "good tackle" merit badge, or a "clutch interception" merit badge, or a "good touchdown" merit badge. and so things wouldn't get too cluttered, just add a number to each merit badge in the case of multiple achievements.

they could have a sash around their shoulder with all the merit badges sewed on, that they remove before they go in for a play.

wouldn't that be real neat?

I think I might tweet @coachjim4michifan that he should listen to me because when he was a sniveling 9th runt at Tappan Jr. High I was a senior at Pioneer, grabbing water polo players from Brother Rice and other snobby elitist pansy type high school around their throats and hding their heads under water until they submitted and begged me not to drown them.

How do you that would go over?

Maybe I could add that I bagged Claire Canham in the Pioneer High School library in the X section.

I believe this will lead him to block you on twitter.

Why piss off Brother Rice & it's legion of valuable Warrior-Wolverine alumni? What does Pioneer do for Michigan & the Football program besides provide a convenient parking lot? You're reaching on this one.

Oh yeah?

Just try parking at Brother Rice and walking to the Big House the next time you go to a home Michigan football game.

Every time I think of stickers i think of 3 to 6 year olds... Like getting a sticker after going to the dentist or doctors.

I'll just get the BR Alumni Association to use their substantial resources to buy Pioneer's parking lot and rename it "Brother Rice Parking Lot #2"

I'm with you on this. I hate the stickers, but what can you do?

Just win.

maybe the stickers don't go on the actual game day helmets. Every player gets a ceremonial helmet for stickers, and they wear those to football-related events.

I think a football helmet + suit & tie is a good look.

God damn genius idea.

If I played football in college, I would've worn the helmet everywhere I went on campus, even to parties on the weekends. That way everyone would know I was a football player.

And it would help out at parties when running into those short-guy stereotypes, who get drunk and look to improve their ego by picking a fight with a football player. I'd be like "go ahead and take a swing at me. I'm wearing a helmet, idiot, and I never take it off."
