Guys this just happened a few minutes before 4:30 pm August 10, 2022.
As of now at 4:30 it has not been put in any news stories other than the blurb from the Tigers.

For the first time in months the Tigers official site has come out with the first story on what we have been waiting for the past few years.

Tigers Fire General Manager Al Avila.
The Tigers have announced that they have parted ways with executive vice president and general manager Al Avila, effective immediately. Sam Menzin, vice president and assistant general manager, will continue as the day-to-day contact for the team, per the statement. The club?s chairman and CEO Christopher Ilitch says that he will oversee the search for Avila?s replacement.
More to come.

Starting with his first full season in 2016, the Tigers have a record of 404-573 under Avila heading into Wednesday night?s matchup against Cleveland.

7 years ago today Al Avila was hired as GM. Here is what they have done:
23-33 last place 2015
86-75 2nd 2016
64-98 last 2017
64-98 3rd 2018
47-114 last 2019
23-35 last 2020
77-85 3rd 2021
42-64 4th so far in 2022
426-602 overall .414 win %

so here's an early list in order of preference
1. Brandon Gomes (LAD)
2. Dana Brown (ATL)
3. Matt Arnold (Mil)
4. Austin Slater (LAD)
5. Thad Levine (MIN)

People forget Theo Epstein. He is not coming without major ownership..forget Jeff Luhnow MLB not allowing it.

I am a little surprised that they did it during the season. I hope they open their wallet and get someone really good.

Woohoo

Looks like I need to find a new avatar now.

Let's see...iirc, you usually have somebody that is doing a bad job or is likely to be fired at some point in time.

Not too many guys that meet that criteria now that AA has been canned. My guess is the next high profile guy to get canned in Detroit area sports will be Dan Campbell. He's going to be all or nothing. If they fail (which they usually do) the team will lose interest in his style of coaching. If they have success, he could end up being a cult hero in the city of Detroit.

Detroit Tigers owner Chris Ilitch is addressing the media after the team announced the firing of general manager Al Avila.

Chris Ilitch is expected to speak to reporters around 5:15 p.m. from Comerica Park. Watch live in the video player above.

Avila?s firing comes as the Tigers traipse toward another losing season. Even though Avila and Ilitch both declared the rebuild ?over? this offseason, the team has fallen 25 games below .500 and owns the third-worst record in the league.

Between Hard Knocks and a 3-win season, Campbell pretty much has immunity this year unless they somehow take a step back.

I?m leaning toward Dwane Casey. I don?t necessarily want to see him gone but I don?t think he?s the future HC for this core. The Pistons will either upgrade or he?ll be Weaver?s sacrificial lamb.

I?m honestly kind of shocked at how everything came together. Boston Boys gone, SVG gone, Holland gone, now Blashill and Avila gone?.the trash has been taken out.
