Delmon Young arrested in New York

how long do you think? 50? 100? he got 50 for the bat-throwing incident, so id figure he'd get at least that and possibly more since its his 2nd anger-related offense.

(this is me just trying to figure out what selig will do)

I'm thinking 10. Though I hope it's the season.

I'm guessing 10-15

50 is way too many, he didn't get caught using steroids. He got drunk and was an idiot, I think a token suspension, and he gets to play while he appeals.

Suspension? Is there even precedent for that?

I cannot imagine he would get 10 games. It seems even more odd that he would get time before baseball knows what happened.

according to Jon Heyman on twitter, Delmon is getting suspended w/o pay for 7 days retroactive to last friday, which means he should be back on friday.

That's not terrible.

But, he has not been convicted of any crime, so I would expect him to appeal, unless the Tigers brass/his agent/lawyer just tell him to shut up and take it.

from the tweets ive seen, he's accepted the punishment and will be back friday with no appeal.

Update: Detroit Tigers' Delmon Young suspended seven days for anti-Semitic rant.
from Mlive

Selig said in a statement. "An incident like this cannot and will not be toleration."

Young has agreed to the discipline and will not appeal the suspension.

"He has agreed to it -- well, it?s been agreed upon," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "He is accepting it."

He will be required to participate in a treatment program as part of the discipline related to his arrest. He is not expected to miss any time on the field as part of the program, Dombrowski confirmed Monday.

Dombrowski said the team can't impose "dual discipline" after Young serves his suspension, meaning the Tigers aren't expected to impose additional punishment.

"I understand that Mr. Young is regretful," Selig said, "and it is my expectation that he will learn from this unfortunate episode."

I really wish he was on another team right now. We shouldn't have to be dealing with this nonsense in the middle of a slump.

Regarding Delmon Young.
from DesigNateRobertsonTigersblog

Nobody says it better than Rogo.

Through reading most articles, the single most important aspect to me was he was so intoxicated at around 12 hours before game time, that he had to be taken to the hospital. This implies, to me, that his blood alcohol content was probably .20 or above. If true, then he would have still been legally impaired at game time.

IMO, this isn't the lone time he has done this. 99.9% of DUI/DWI offenders are not caught on the first time they drank and drove. Which, is somewhat equivalent.

To me, it isn't about the scuffle, the racial slurs or anything else but the presumed alcohol excess that close to game time. If it was an off day, then it would be a difference to me. If it was during off season, again, a big difference.

And certainly, the Tiger's Organizational is responsible for setting the tone for in season off field conduct, especially on the road. I am not sure about anyone else, but my employer would probably can my ass if I showed up for work with a .05 - .08 BAC.

Delmon Young, the police and most probably the Tigers (MLB) know what the facts are.

Where there is smoke...there tends to be fire. But even if no fire, then there was something that caused the smoke. Smoke does not just appear from nothing.

I agree.

I could give a shit about what he said about whomever.

But being drunk at that time of night while on the road tells me that they don't enforce a road curfew.

Seriously, how close are we to becoming the next Red Sox-type laughing stock, with the problems and and poor off-the-field decisions this team and it's players make.

It's cost us a playoff spot once already, (Cabrera drunk in Chicago with Ozzie and the gang) and nobody seemed to care (front office).

I think it's time for Smokey to law down the law, enforce curfew on road trips, maybe even ban alcohol from the clubhouse on road trips.

Delmon made his apology and served his time for running his mouth, and everyone seems to forget that what he said was the least of the problem, compared to why he said it.

/end rant. :ugh:

Some of you might not care about what he said but no doubt the league cares and the Tigers brass cares and a bunch of the community cares.

What he did or did not say is in question.

But the problem is what he did or did not say is getting all the attention in this debacle, and the fact that he was highly intoxicated outside of his hotel at 2:30 am is being mostly overlooked.

If he said what is being claimed (there is still no official word on what he said specifically) I find it distasteful, but I don't find it a criminal act.

The fact that he was fall down drunk, outside on a public street, is however a criminal act.
