Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

June 26 in Tigers and mlb history:

1920 - Lou Gehrig gets his first national mention when, as a high school junior for New York City's School of Commerce, he steals the show in a high school championship game against Lane Tech in Chicago. His grand slam home run in the 8th gives the New York team a 12 - 8 victory. Scouts sit with open mouths as the ball sails out of the National League park (later known as Wrigley Field).

1949 - Pat Mullin goes 4 for 4 and hits three home runs for the Detroit Tigers in a 12 to 4 win over New York.

1966: The Major League Executive Council decides that both the American League and National League will play 162-game schedules in 1969 and operate two 6-team divisions each.

1972: Detroit's Bill Slayback makes his major league debut a good one, allowing no hits for seven innings against the Yankees. Johnny Callison's single in the 8th is the first hit, but Detroit hangs on to a 4 - 3 win.

1991: Mickey Tettleton repeats his feat of four days ago by again hitting a home run out of Tiger Stadium, in an 8 - 7 win over the Brewers. The Tigers break a 7 - 7 tie with two outs in the 9th.

1992 - Star second baseman Lou Whitaker is caught trying to steal twice in one game. It?s the only time that ever happens to him.

1997 - In Detroit's 10 - 6 walloping of the Red Sox, Tiger Brian Hunter swipes four bases. Detroit also gets a home run from Shane Mack to offset two Boston homers.

Here?s something for the ?you don?t see this every day? category: The Tigers were awarded a run after Friday night?s game was over, and they didn?t even know it until the following day. Here?s what happened:

With one out in the ninth inning, Miguel Cabrera hit a ball that Cleveland outfielder Rajai Davis ran down, then bobbled before running into the wall. Not realizing that he made the catch, a pair of Detroit baserunners, Ian Kinsler and Cameron Maybin, rounded the bases without tagging up. The Indians threw the ball in and doubled off Maybin, who had been on first, ending the game. The play was reviewed to confirm the catch and the teams left the field thinking that Cleveland had won by a score of 7-4.

On Saturday, the Elias Sports Bureau alerted MLB that Kinsler, who had been on second, had scored Detroit?s fifth run before the game was technically over. Kinsler crossed the plate before Maybin was doubled off and the Indians would have needed to appeal at second in order to negate his run. They didn?t do so. As a result, Kinsler was credited with a run scored, Cabrera with a sacrifice fly, and the final score was 7-5.

1922 - Detroit Stars pitcher Bill Force no-hits the St. Louis Giants 3 - 0, at Mack Park in a Negro National League game.

1940: Bobo Newsom (10-1) wins his 10th in a row as the 2nd place Tigers whip St. Louis 2 - 1. Detroit manages just three hits, but two are homers by Hank Greenberg and Charlie Gehringer.

1963: Detroit's Norm Cash achieves a rarity by playing an entire game at 1B without a chance, as the Twins win.

1967: Al Kaline breaks his hand as he slams his bat into the bat rack after being struck out by Sam McDowell as the 2nd-place Tigers lose to Cleveland, 8 - 1. The future Hall of Famer will miss 28 games.

1972: Mickey Lolich is staked to a 4 - 0 lead when the Tigers hit three consecutive 1st-inning home runs against New York's Wade Blasingame, making his American League debut. Tony Taylor leads off with a walk before Aurelio Rodriguez, Al Kaline and Willie Horton wade in with homers to finish Blasingame. Lolich, pitching on two days' rest, notches his 12th win, 5 - 2. Bobby Murcer's home run accounts for one of the Yank runs.

1987: Darrell Evans slugs a two-run home run in the 1st inning off Mike Boddicker for his 2,000th career hit, but his Tigers lose to Baltimore, 4 - 2.
