Detroit Tigers Gameday: Trying to get on track against the Marlins.
Mlive

The Marlins have been a better than average road team, compiling a 20-16 record. The Tigers are 21-16 at Comerica Park.

The Tigers have an 8-4 record so far in interleague play this season. The Marlins are 4-5.

Mike Pelfrey gets the start today for the Tigers. His last appearance was in relief. He threw 4.1 scoreless innings against Cleveland on Friday.

The Tigers start against a left-handed pitcher today. That's bad news for Miguel Cabrera, who is struggling mightily against lefties this seasson, hitting just .157 with a .534 OPS. Cabrera is batting .296 with an .892 OPS overall so far in 2016.

Conley threw eight scoreless innings in his last start, beating Atlanta.

FULMER RANKS HIGH IN TOP 10 ROOKIES.
Michael Fulmer has quickly become the best rookie starter in the AL and major league ready perhaps a year earlier than originally expected, writes Jim Bowden. His command has improved since last year, and he has a big fastball that tops at 98 mph with a power 88-mph slider. Top 10 rookies (Espn Insider).

TIGERS WON'T RUSH JOE JIMENEZ.
Jimenez has insane numbers in the minors this year (0.33 ERA, 46 K's in 27 1/3 IP), but he isn't an option for Detroit just yet. "He's clearly dominating levels he's pitched at," said Tigers VP for player development Dave Littlefield. "We understand that. But he's not a finished product."

Barry Bonds very complimentary of Tigers' Miguel Cabrera. Praised his baseball IQ and said he knew he was going to be something special, even from an early age: "He's f------ great."

Barry Bonds also extolled former Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who Bonds had as a rookie in Pittsburgh. His main takeaway from their relationship? "His friendship. We've been friends forever. He was the best manager for me when I first came up. I had [other] great ones, don't get me wrong... To have [Leyland] as your first manager, it doesn't even compare."
