Shepherd needs to focus his attention on his number one job as the Lions quarterback.

They were all on the Wings telecast tonight, except Morris. But Dan Petry was there, along with Monroe..

I would have preferred a new full-time color tandem. No more shuffling of color guys in & out of the TV booth.
Promoting Dan Petry and bringing-in a talkative newcomer that knows Detroit baseball well...... (cough)Brandon Inge, for a one season trial run.

Congrats to Shep and he will improve as the season rolls-on.
 
I like Shep, very happy for him. Gibby knows his stuff and I really am hoping he can beat Parkinson’s but he may be the single most boring announcer I have ever listened to regardless of sport. Morris was ok a couple years ago.
 
I am fine with players from the past who share time in the booth with the play by play guy.
They have the baseball savvy and know what is coming in most game situations, hit and run, steal, type of pitch and where to locate it.

Many wanted Dan Dickerson to do the Tigers broadcast, and many didn?t want him to leave the radio.
I listen to him and Jim Price when in my car. I like them alot!

I think FSD and/or the Tigers management wanted a person with Detroit and Michigan ties.
Reason why no national guy like Bob Costa, or a newbie from out of town?

That said, this Matt Shepard reminds me of a nickname they gave the late great James Brown,
?The Hardest Working Man in the Business?. He does everything in Michigan sports professional and collegiate. I wish him well.

Rumors have former Detroit Tiger Jack Morris not returning to the tv booth for the 2023 season. But not for the reason many fans may believe.
It is probably due to a combination of issues for both sides.
Bally has been cutting costs and is believed to be filing for bankruptcy soon. And Morris has said he wants to spend more time with his son who is a top pitching prospect in high school and getting lots of attention from scouts.
Morris will be replaced by Craig Monroe who would be making less $$. Dan Petry is expected to take on more tv work. No word yet about the status of Matt Shepard but in either case, Bally doesn't have the money to upgrade their play-by-play announcer.

Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you back in actual offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s topic??..

It?s not yet officially ?official? but it appears that Jack Morris will not be returning to the Bally broadcast booth. And it?s not for reasons related to the 2021 controversy. Reports have the departure pegged as a mutual decision.

It is logical that one of the reasons has to do with the debt of Bally?s parent company and expected bankruptcy filing in the coming months. Bally has been forced to make budget cuts over the past couple of years. Morris is being replaced by Craig Monroe who undoubtedly earns less that Jack. As does Dan Petry who is expected to take on more responsibilities.

Morris also has stated that his son, a promising pitcher who is garnering lots of attention from scouts, needs him around more as he enters his last year of high school.

Bally has yet to indicate anything about the status of Matt Shepard but from social media posts, it would appear he will return.

Given the financial concerns, it would be hard for Bally to attract better talent to its broadcast booth.

What do you think of the changes? Does the departure of Morris and promotions of Monroe and Petry make for a better broadcast?

Would you consider the loss of Jack Morris from the Bally broadcast team to be an improvement?

1. Yes, the broadcast is better without him.

2. No, he will be missed.

3. Not sure. I'm willing to give C-Mo a chance.

I am ok with it. I like Matt and Gibby. Morris Petry and Monroe are ok.
