I think the size of the bases is less of a factor than limiting number of throws to first base

Baseball is just over 3 weeks into the season with 3 new rules being implemented. One of them is the pitch clock.

So far, an average of 26 minutes has been shaved from each game, making them resemble the length of contests from 20+ years ago. The reduction in time is not in actual play but it involves dead time ? mound visits, batter adjustments at the plate, pitcher confabs, etc.

Many fans report that the pace has picked up and the tempo more even. Both of which hold their attention better. And more families are able to attend because the end times are conducive for those with young children or work days.

However, some fans complain that shorter games takes away from their entire experience and amount of time spent at the ballpark.

So which system ? old or new ? do you prefer now that you?ve seen the pitch clock in action?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

The results of MLB's rule changes five weeks in

-Games are 28 minutes shorter.
-BABIP is up 16 points.
-SB attempts are the highest in 11 years.
-SB success rate is on pace to be an all-time high.
-Less than one violation per game.

Last week I promised that we would address all the injuries happening to pitchers. Today, we?ll start off the discussion in a 2-part blog.

However, the original topic concerning the increasing number of Tommy John surgeries will wait for Thursday, so please save your comments about that for then.

We?re pivoting slightly because of a just-released study about what is going on this year with pitcher injuries.

Injuries are up across all of MLB, esp. among starting pitchers. And it?s noticeable.

Noticeable enough that MLB is investigating.

Many fans have pointed out the injuries with the Tigers. Going so far as to immediately pin the blame on Chris Fetter.

Chris, btw, is probably having nightmares about his decimated staff.

But it?s not Fetter. It?s not even the training and conditioning staffs. And it?s not the Tigers.

It?s???

I posted elsewhere but MLB up 9% the most in 25 years. No doubt the new rules have helped.
 
The annual public report on MLB's drug testing revealed Friday that were 11,783 drugs tests administered, including 2,233 blood tests, and only one positive test for Stanozolol.
There were 65 therapeutic use exemptions granted, including 61 for ADHD.

As part of the 10-year deal that Nike has with MLB, they are rolling out City Connect uniforms for each team. They are described as alternate uniforms that offer different color schemes, fonts and graphics and considered to be fun and ?fashion forward.? Nike describes them as ?reflecting the cultural aspects of each team?s home city.?

While the Rockies have black, white and grey uniforms with a backdrop of mountains, the Boston Red Sox have bright yellow uniforms with turquoise trim. Washington, DC has pink cherry blossoms splashed across the front of theirs. San Diego?s brown uniforms have given way to a tropical vibe of pink, yellow and mint green. The hats are green while the belts are hot pink.

Nike is the decision maker. It is believed that this strategy is to introduce new jerseys (and thus more money in sales) and attract a younger fan base. So far, the reviews from fans are mixed.

At the end of 2024, 23 teams will have them. There is yet to be an announcement about the jersey debuts for the Athletics, Guardians, Mets, Rays, Tigers, Twins and Yankees.

All teams are supposed to get their own but not every team wants one. The Yankees have made it known that they are against changing the pinstripe uniform.

As you see, the Detroit Tigers do not have a City Connect jersey yet. It is unclear whether it is due to their recent performance standings (thus not a big demand) or whether the organization is possibly fighting the update.
